Toilet Paper - Poll

In the past I had clogs in my line every so often and took the system apart. It was caused by toilet paper that didn't disintegrate not only in days, but in weeks. It was something new the admiral bought.

I found that to eliminate my problems I now test the toilet paper in a jar of water. UNUSED toilet paper, that is. Put a few sheets in a jar of water and if see they fall apart in a couple of hours or even over night, if so, they are OK for my head system.
I got this tip from Peggy Hall either in person or in her book "Get Rid of Boat Odors". I cant remember which. Great Book by the way. It tells how to get rid of major problems as well as those irritating little problems. Well worth keeping on board.

I have adopted a pump while in use procedure too though.

me too, very neccessary after a curry or a feed of chips & Guinness etc.

I call it multi-stage sh&ting...

To question of poll:

We use TP and flush it, but have a "one foot of TP into head limit" rule. Any extra goes into the covered waste bin.

Funny with this:
Some people respond "never used more than a foot of paper anyway".
Others with "Oh my God, I thought everyone used about 10 feet like I always do".

I use fish. I catch one once a day, wipe my ass with it, then take it outside and wash it off over the side. Then I fry it up for dinner. 2 for 1 use is conservative and just makes sense.

Also, RV Forum tested using a similar method and rated Northern Quilted as best, beating the RV/Marine brands. And it's easier to find. If you're interested, Google will find the test for you I'm sure.

Same here,- I don't have a problem. I don't understand what system people have that causes a problem. I have a three foot straight hose to the holding tank. What do those with the problem have? ....long convoluted plumbing?

You wash your hands because they come in contact with food. Required hygene.

If someone uses their butt in process of eating french fries, then maybe this obsession with clean butt makes sense. Otherwise toilet paper is plenty "good enough" for proper hygene.

Well, I'm been to countries where people don't take baths for weeks, either, and think that's fine. Everyone has to set their own hygiene line on what works for them. I was just telling where one person I knew had set the line, and why.

Never use the stuff. Hook up one of those kitchen sink spray nozzles.
You never know when you'll meet that special someone.

Being someone who does long trips... I always carry wipes... water is to precious to waste on the ocean and I can see no point in the expense of a water maker...

As to guests..? if dickheads can block a toilet on land coz they need 1/2 a roll for their sad butts... what chance my heads with their skinny outlets... apart from that.. toilet paper kills the sea floor...

That's right and thas has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time. We think we're sooo bloody intelligent and that we're God's chosen ones whom he created the whole f@cking universe for and yet we're the only ones on the face of this planet who have to muck about wiping the sh!t off our asses on a daily basis.
