Shur flo diaphragm pump troubleshooting

Hi all,

My water pressure pump stopped working today. In troubleshooting the problem, I was able to determine that the pump is getting around 11 volts but not turning on. This is where I'm stuck. I am tempted to just go out and get a new pump, but want to make sure that I'm not missing anything.

The pump should run dry with no hose attached, correct? If it doesn't does that mean it is fried? Any other troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks -- Phil

Re: Shur flo diaphragm pump troubleshooting

A Shurflo diaphragm pump will run dry without any lines attached. Does the pump head itself have a pressure switch? Sometimes these can go bad. On some Shurflos you can bypass wire the pressure switch to see if the motor runs. But the 11 volts is a bit concerning, why only 11 Volts? You can damage a pump motor by operating it at a too low a voltage.

Re: Shur flo diaphragm pump troubleshooting

If it is an electronic model with variable speed it may not work on voltages below 11.5 and above 14.5 based upon programming parameters.
That's try for the jabsco I know for sure. As a said below, why 11v??

Re: Shur flo diaphragm pump troubleshooting

Sorry, should have mentioned that. My house batteries are crap and I am swapping out. I thought that 11 would be enough to run it, but it sounds like that may be the problem. I'll hook it up to a fresh battery and see. Thanks!
