Seacocks - 1983 Tashing

Anybody knows about these big seacocks and how good or bad they are?

My TAshing has a few I can not open anymore and I wonder how to replace or try to open them

Tried special oil but not working .........

I would recommend replacing them with new flanged ball valve type sea cocks. Make sure what you get is UL approved for marine use. The valves on your boat if original are likely past there useful life. Quality of the Asian fittings was not great to start with in many cases. This is not a place you want to cut corners do it right and sleep good at night

A high quality seacock should last (nearly) the life of a boat.
Yours are Asian, have not (lasted), and are not high quality.
I recommend replacement, per Wayne’s advice.

despite this is the famous Tashing yard you think they are too old? They are 'huge' size wise and cupper with big handle........as boat is in the water was wondering if they are as good as the hull and deck structure.
Why whould cupper big seacocks have a lifespan.? Do not take this as a critisism but I am curious and want to learn and understand ......apart from the fact this is an expensive exersise on my 26 old lady

What do you mean "cupper" do you mean copper? They are likely bronze and bronze being an alloy is made up of copper and tin and other additives. The Asian alloys were not the same quality as others and had more copper and impurities. So there life span was not as good. Gord is right a good quality bronze will last as long as the boat if taken care of.

Is there a nut opposite the handle? If so you can loosen this nut and tap the shaft towards the handle and see if that loosens it up. Best do this one of the water. Also check the color of the metal if it has a pinkish color that is not good it should be a more golden look to it if it is in good shape. I try to not mess with these things in the water if at all possible.

if they are indeed corroded shut then there's not much you can do except leave them closed or replace them.

What kind of seacocks are they? Gate valves or tapered valves? If they are bronze tapered valves they can be disassembled and you may be able to lap them back into shape. If there gate valve get them off the boat and put in a proper seacock. Silly to loose a boat for the price of a few seacocks. And don't forget new hoses and quality clamps.

Tapered valves tend to get "wasp" shaped over time. Lap the valve in the body, clean it well, re-grease and re-assemble.

guys good info; my boat is far at this time but I recall they could be bronze and are 'roundinsh shape' sticking out a lot inside the boat.
Will take pictures asap to put here so for you experts to judge better.
