galley sink plumbing

I replaced the galley sink baskets and with it, the pvc pipes that are assembled with slip nuts and washers. My problem is that these pipes and fittings just feel cheap and weak. I can torque the fittings around pretty easily, since the PVC is thin and flexible and only held together by squeezing down on each other.

Has anyone come up with the right fittings to attach to standard kitchen sink baskets that are tough and secure? Possibly some fittings with barbs, so I can simply go straight to hose and then to the seacock.

I used chrome over brass parts. If you search you can find some heaver pieces

i used the standard cheap plastic fittings but my sink is well above the waterline. but directly under the fittlings i've got heavy duty rubber hose going to the thruhull.

I made mine out of schedule 40 pvc then I used a heatgun to soften it fully. Then slipped it over the threads of the drains and immediately used my impact driver and torqued a high quality aba 316 hose clamp over the assembly. It basically made its own threads in the soft pvc. It is incredibly strong and does not leak.

I used deep baskets for the sink drains and found pvc threaded female to hose barb that fit, to a barbed "T" to a check valve to the sea cock. A battle, but it worked. The chromed brass slip joint isn't the best set up, it is chromed on the outside and brass inside, and is prone to electolysis. the fact that it is friction fir rather than mechanical, one good bump and it could come apart.

Just make sure to have a shut-off in that drain run, preferably as close to the water line as is possible.

Make up a nylon webbing strap, to hold the hose up above the waterline in case you have a failure at the sink drain its self.

Most house hold grade stainless sink drains that I have taken off of boats, have been rotted out paper thin, and are one bean can landing on the hose away from sinking the boat.

I trashed all the PVC stuff and fitted a bronze tee and that super duty black hose that I trust below the water line.
