Foot Pump Repair

2007 Beneteau 343 has Sea Water Foot Pump for Galley Sink. It has two purpose, first is for galley sink, second is to drain ice box. It has a handle on hoses; from seawater or ice box.

My problem is I cannot pump out from ice box. Do I need to remove the pump and How?

Probably a y-valve leading to the pump. Turn one way the pump sucks sea water in from the ocean. Turn the other way the pump sucks water from the bottom of the freezer.

Have you followed the hoses in and out to the pump? That will tell you what is going on. The hose going out to the sink should be easy. So follow the other hose which will be the intake side and see where it goes.

By the way, if you pump and sea water comes out in a nice stream into the sink then there is probably nothing wrong with the pump so no need to remove it.

Again, most likely a valve where the sink drain hose and the sea water intake hose come together, but also you should check to make sure the drain hose in the bottom of the freezer is not blocked with any food or paper or something.

Sucking from the ocean and pumping sea water part is working.

when I turn the valve the other way does not suck from the bottom of the freezer and after 2-3 pumps the handle stucks at bottom.

The hose from the ice box is plugged. The pump is sucking a vacuum in the line which is why the pump lever won't return after a few strokes. Remove the hose from the ice box at the pump and use water pressure with a hose, air pressure to blow out the obstruction or a 'Snake' to dislodge it. You don't want to suck it into the pump as that could gum up the works in the pump requiring R&R'ing the pump.

Sounds like the line from the freezer is clogged with some kind of trash. Could be part of a food wrapper, plastic bag or old piece of a hot dog.

So pull the hose off the y-valve that goes to the freezer and blow in the end. should clear it out. If that doesn't work poke a wire down the hose to clear it.

I have followed the procedure. "pull the hose off the y-valve that goes to the freezer and blow in the end" and air came through.

But did not solved the problem. it indicates that y-valve is not functioning. Is it possible?

Certainly there could be a problem in the y-valve. Could be something from the fridge came down the hose and is stuck in the valve or some other problem with the valve itself.

So just do the same test but one step further down the line. Pull the hose that goes from the y-valve to the pump where it connects to the pump. If the y-valve is turned to the ocean side then water should come out. You can just hold your thumb over the hose to stop that. Now switch the y-valve to the freeze and blow again. if you can blow into the hose connected to the freezer drain but you cannot blow through the y-valve then there is a problem with the valve or a clog in the valve.

If you can blow all the way from the hose pump, through the y-valve and through the hose to the freezer but still cannot pump the water from the freezer then there must be a problem with the pump or something clogging the hose somewhere.
