Why do you say a bit of hose at the Joker Valve would be the first point of failure? Smell wise? 6" of good hose is not going to smell.

Nothing in my twenty year old ABS plumbing is glued. It is all clamped, even where the sort lengths of hose meet the ABS, All adapters are available at Home Depot.

I have never used PVC, I used ABS because that what is most commonly used in residential construction here is Ontario. Don't see why PVC wouldn't work either.

Simple...fagettabout the joker valve. Install a nylon ball valve/ anti stink valve. The normally off anti stink valve does the job. Joker valve is redundant! And no worries about PVC and anti freeze....just do it.

ABS will work fine. I don't understand how your fittings and pipe are put together with clamps - ABS is rigid and usually glued.

One advantage with PVC is it is universally available everywhere if you need to repair/change it for any reason. I mean everywhere - grass huts in remote places have it for sale.

ABS may be easier to work with though. And this really is a do once and forget about it for many, many years type of job - either will be equal and better than hose.

Actually, there is no concern re. vinyl hose and neoprene joker valves (both are impacted) vs. antifreeze... unless you are still using propylene glycol (PG) in the head.

** ethylene glycol (EG), common in engine coolants, does NOT affect either vinyl or neoprene. Just one of many reasons it is preferred in cars.
** EG and PG are equal in bidegradability (the USEPA and European agencies have studied this in length in relation to aircraft de-icing--Google it).
** The are equal in marine toxicity (same studies and any MSDS). Anyone who says differently is either selling something or has not read the data.
** There is really no risk of mammal poisoning, because no one is drinking black water, and the system is even sealed during pump-out.
** No difference at wastewater treatment. I've designed the plants. Actually, PG is a little worse, partly because its BOD is higher, and partly because more is needed for the same FP.

So stop using the "pink stuff" in the head. It is for potable water systems only.

Definitely avoid the white stuff if it is situated so a leak can sink the boat. It has a tendency to split readily even when fairly new.
