The manual says to leave the unit off for 10-20 minutes if it shuts off by itself.

It'll take a day or so to cool down a hot box. The unit will run more than 50% of the time.

Find a manual online somewhere.

Wire gauge is important, as are the connections.

New thermostat, new phone jack connector, new refrigerant, new paint, new supply cables...

We still plan on adding a DC fan (as opposed to the AC one that requires me to be extra careful of the cable and is so big we have to shut it off before we open the unit), but

WE SEEM TO HAVE A WORKING FRIDGE!!

The Keystone cop version: We ran the new cables last night and *nothing* would come on after we connected them. It turns out the main supply across the distribution board that runs to the ammeter and back had a bad splice that broke off when it got bumped. We did a complicated jury rig at midnight when we discovered this, but hubby put it all back together while I ran to West Marine for a cable as soon as they opened at 8am. Thanks to a gentleman who held the door for me I was first in, and thanks to knowing exactly what we needed, I was first out. When I got back, it turned out that hubby had also discovered that the big AC fan wasn't working: a loose string on a cooler we have been using to add extra protection to our food got wrapped around it and he had to take it all out and unwrap the string. Surprisingly, it was not burned out.

Great! My AB has worked flawlessly for ten years, with the exception of a problem at installation time which AB diagnosed and fixed with one phone call.
