What makes a boat a "blue water" boat and what's better a monohull or a multihull?
Once those questions are answered it will be clear what the best anchor is!

And after you've plowed through all the stuff Hud pointed you to, here's the jist of it for quick reference:

1. New generation anchors -- Manson, Rocna, Spade -- are regarded by practically everyone who has tried them as vastly better than anything else as a general purpose bower anchor. Well worth switching to one of these if you've got an older type of anchor.

2. No one has been able to prove that any one of those three is any better than any of the others, and many of us think that there isn't any real difference other than hot air.

3. Size matters. Get the biggest anchor which is practical in terms of fit on your bow, handling, etc.

4. Fortress makes a great kedge anchor.

All you need to know about anchors. Now you want to know about chain versus rope, shackles, anchoring technique? Ask someone else!

Is there a special sub-thread to focus on the special anchoring requirements and characteristics of the MacGregor 26X PowerSailer? Sorry!

Such a welcoming site? I really don’t know of a similar topic that is not repeated at least a few times on here?

Nevertheless, thanks for the genuine replies as I am seriously looking at adding an oversized Manson Supreme to my shopping list. Yes, I have seen the treads about modifying anchor rollers etc…..,,,,,,, Even if I have to manually throw it over the pulpit it will just be good to know I have a storm anchor that works?
