Re: Steve Jobs new boat, so big they aren't sure how big it actually is

I have to defend the Dutch yachtbuilders here.

First of all, if you come with a stupid designjob, most of the Dutch yards would gladly show you the way to the door. Unconditional who you are.

Philip Starck is no idiot either. Styling is a matter of taste. So it is quite personal.

As far as I know the Vries, the "Venus" is equipped with old fashioned US engines: "Caterpillar". Quite reliable.

There are some odd jobs floating around: look at "Aztec" - maybe her name changed, because this boat changed hands many times. There are mor of this kind.

I guess goes to prove that money can't buy taste.

Re: Steve Jobs new boat, so big they aren't sure how big it actually is

It should have been a catamaran.

But I think it is cool. Get rid of the very top, and that next layer down is exactly the type of bridgedeck that I would like to have in a catamaran. Well, I could refrain myself to two 27" iMacs...

The only design critic I have is I'm not sure how you would get back on the boat if you fell overboard at sea. Even in port it looks like a challenge. I must be missing something.

A catamaran in this size could never been transported.

Both yards, De Vries and Van Lent are situated to a waterway that limits their constructions.

They grew from blacksmiths after WWII to what they are now.

The salmon are swimming upstream, through my esophagus, out my mouth, all over the keyboard. Look at them flopping there helplessly, and it's all a dead man's fault for making me lose my lunch.

You underestimate the power of Steve Jobs. He would have just had the waterways widened.

Well, if it was a competition, fellow tech guru Larry Ellison won, I think. His Rising Sun is a beautiful yacht. Now owned by David Geffen.

Christened "Venus" after the Roman goddess of love and beauty?

She should be called "Gertrude" after the Roman goddess of ghastly aesthetics.

Good call, though an Elco has much more shape to the lines and some reverse sheer, there are similarities. An Elco at full throttle is a sight to behold.

I like the boat. Interior is probably more practical than one with"traditional lines"

The workers that built the ship were all given an iPod mini as a thank you, and an unsigned card from the Jobs family.

Really, the upper 1% club, giving away something that cost them virtually nothing, when they could have given each worker a top of the line iPhone 5, 27" Mac, anything they make. iPod mini. Good grief.

I am a fan of apple products, this post is done on an iPad, but come on. What a slap in the face.

My vote on the looks of the boat? As an artist, making a good living, and having a keen eye for what is pleasing, this ship ranks up there with the Spruce Goose, and the Edsel.

Look at the last picture showing the outside of the bridge, looking in. See the backs of the seven Mac 27's staring at you? How lame is that! Your sons away at college have better taste decorating their dorm rooms. Can we get built in electronics for the zillions this boat cost? Seriously, just stuck 7 Macs on a narrow countertop in front of a large window and call that the bridge. Lol

You cannot even see the water where it meets the ship from the bridge. In fact, an area larger than a football field easily fits in the blind spot. Good luck getting a captain that wants crashing this tub into docks, on his record. Photo 3's vantage point as far away as it is, is entering in the tubs blind spot.
