Don't want to destroy any fantasies, but Ginger is now 82 and Mary-Ann 77.

Mary-Ann has aged better.

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

One weekend morning, I saw one of those links that suckers you into webpages where there are N number of pages about a given subject. One of those sites where you have 20-30 photos or pieces of info and each item is on its own page....

Well, they got me one day about the secrets of Gilligan's island....

Ginger was not liked by the cast. Ginger really was not acting and really thought she was/should be The Star of the show. I never dd like Ginger. Mary Ann was The One! :bigg rin:

Mrs. Howel was very well off since her and her husband had been buying real estate in this little town called Beverly Hills for many years. She took the part so she could fly and stay in Hawaii for free.

The cast, with one exception, does NOT get royalties/residuals for the reruns. The producer/creator of the show has made millions but the cast, with the one exception, only got paid for a small number of reruns, I think it was 6-12.

The actress who play Mary Ann is the one cast member who gets residuals for the show. At the time she was signing the contract for the show, she was married to an agent who suggested she negotiate residual payments which she did.

"Mary Ann" became good friends with "Mrs Howell." When "Mrs Howell" got sick later in life, "Mary Ann" helped to take care of her.

The Skipper once broke a bone one the set but kept working to finish up the season. He worked for a few weeks before getting the arm fixed.

Hey, I found the list, without having to click on page after page after page! 15 Fateful Facts About 'Gilligan’s Island' | Mental Floss

This is my favorite and related to boating.

Dawn Wells was vacationing in the Solomon Islands in 1990 when she and some friends canoed to a remote island in the area that had no running water or electricity. The visitors were ushered to a hut to meet the village chief, and Wells was stunned when “The chief's wife said, ‘I know you. In 1979, I was going to nursing school in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, and I used to come home and watch you in black-and-white!’”
Later,
Dan

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

You'd think she wouldn't be interested in a remote location with no water or electricity for her vacation!

Re: Why didn't Gilligan think of this?

Actually Dawn didnt receive residuals either:

Quote:
Sun: They stopped making Gilligan’s Island 47 years ago. Do you still receive residuals?

Wells: We never received any residuals.

Sun: How much money did you make for Gilligan’s Island?

Wells: Nothing. I don’t know, maybe I made $700 a week. I understand (the producer) Mr. Schwartz made $90 million on the reruns alone. I think we got paid…maybe we made $50,000, I don’t know.

Sherwood Schwartz was the creator and producer of Gilligan's Island. His son Donald Schwartz is a respected opthamologist who did my cataract surgery. I invited him to go for a day sail but he declined. True story.

Totally understandable, Donna Douglas was an equally umm, talented peer of hers in that era, though she lost out a little bit by not having a Ginger to inspire an equivalent Ginger-or-Maryann game.

Alan Hale Jr. was on my flight years ago. At the time ( unbeknownst to me) he was battling cancer and had lost A LOT of weight.

He was quite friendly, big smile the whole time we chatted. He said that with his svelte new figure, he didn't have to ride in the cargo hold anymore.

Wasn't long after that he was gone.

He seemed like a genuine nice guy.
