What catamaran did you get?

You do realize that catamarans wind up the armchair critics just as much as Beneteaus, don't you? Maybe even more so.

If Hunter made a catamaran, there would be apoplexy all over these boards…

Haha, a Hunter Catamaran would cause extreme apoplexy for sure!

I am very aware of the banter between monos and Cats (and Hunters) lol. We couldn't afford much but we sold our Seidelmann 37 monohull and managed to buy an Endeavourcat 30 with the proceeds. Progress is slow but we will get there.

Six or seven pages into this thread and I have yet to see the word "unseaworthy." Much discussion of largely superfluous items...the tabbing, the shelf, rudder tube, watertight bulkheads, and on and on. Please forgive me for saying it, but the real problem here is an unseaworthy design built using too light scantlings.

I am very glad you survived, but electronic communication and outside assistance cannot reliably overcome bad design and construction.

I do understand your point relative to sturdy construction. However, it is Blue Pearl's choice, and after having two monohulls sink out from under them, the concept of an "unsinkable" cat would have a certain appeal. I know cats can be sunk, but I think that the sheer trauma of the loss of the previous vessels makes the catamaran choice extremely understandable.

Actually, I think they're brave to continue cruising after such a setback.

Sometimes logic only takes you so far, and you have to reach out with your compassion to understand something apparently illogical, especially if it is contrary to the way you tend to consider things. It's all too easy to get hung up in the rightness of one's own opinion and forget to cut the other guy some slack.

I think it would be interesting if you could enlighten us all as to exactly what the other adjectives are that come to your mind.

I have never thought of myself and the admiral as being "brave" although we have been described that way by friends and acquaintances that don't cruise. It is just something you do that you enjoy. It may be a bit more hazardous than some things but in reality I am very concerned every time I get in a car to drive somewhere. But I don't think I am brave to drive.

Bluewaters - good on ya'. Keep on going and keep on enjoying. It would be great meeting with you some day at a potluck on a beach somewhere. Never any armchair quarterbacks out there. Catamaran or monomaran, it's all good.
