Re: "Maidentrip" Opens in US

Really want to see the movie. A few weeks ago I found a full list of all the upcoming showings, but Google can't seem to find the list again. Has anyone else seen the list? I am wondering if it would be playing near the boat show">Miami Boat Show.

It looks like a limited release, so not too many theaters showing the movies

really liked it - and Laura too.

When Maidentrip was shown as part of the Auckland International Film Festival about six months ago, Tory Salvia who runs www.thesailingchannel.tv, asked us to view it for him - take some notes as he is working on a doco about Matt Rutherford (title to be Red Dot in a Big Ocean I think.) I went in skeptical, came out enchanted. Larry said, "If that girl was my daughter I'd be swelling with pride." My main reaction was - "This girl is a sailor." The doco uses Laura's voice and her amazingly good video footage supplemented with footage taken by the doco maker as she met up with the boat in various places. You get to watch Laura growing up - and occasionally reverting to being a frustrated youngster. The on board video cams showed she understood seamanship by the way she kept the boat. Main thing that came through is this young woman wasn't pushed into anything, she wanted to do this, prepared, learned and, unlike other young sailors who came back and said, "did that, got the tee shirt," she looks like she is eager to sail a lot more. Good luck to her - hope our paths cross some time.

Re: "Maidentrip" Opens in US

I guess the only thing left to do now is give a big boat to a 12 year old.

OK, I know that's not really fair, but it does seem to be the trend.

That was my first take on it also until I saw the trailer and watched an on stage speech by her. To me, she's the real McCoy. As Lin said..."This girl is a sailor".
I look forward to seeing it. At least on DVD as it seems a little scarce in Ca.

Coming from you that is a good endorsement. I've followed her travels on her site and youtube ever since a colleague (a Dutch Deckofficer) told me about her and the court hearings. He said that Laura is the real deal, and a sailor with a 6th sense about her vessel. She has a competitive bend, enjoying leaving an anchorage with other newer, larger, faster boats for a passage and arriving first. This is an interesting interview with the producer and director of "Maidentrip" and towards the end it was mentioned that the director Emily contracted a boat to follow her across the Pacific for some footage enroute but Laura out ran them. Also if anyone is interested, Laura has mentioned on her site that she a chosen not to be connected to the documentary for some undisclosed reason.

Re: "Maidentrip" Opens in US

This is how she scores a free slip in Auckland, giving presentations at the Maritime Museum about twice a month.
