Laura Dekker En Route to the Caribbean
After waiting in the Canaries for hurrican season to wind down, Laura Dekker has embarked on her passage across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. After about three months in the Canaries, 14 year-old Laura set out for the Cape Verde Islands a week ago Wednesday, arriving six days later. Here's a link to her website, and from there you can access her blog: http://www.lauradekker.nl/English/Home.html

Well done, Laura. And especially well done for bucking the trend and getting international recognition for a cruiser-like fun way to circumnavigate:
"I've not really a plan. I just want to be in the Panama Canal in May, April, so until that time I will cross the islands, I think."
Laura's got it exactly right.

If I couldn't out-sail her, maybe I can out-finance her?
Sorry, thats an jerkish thing to say, but I do think theres a lot to cruising, and a big part of it is having worked a life to pay for a few years of enjoyment.

Dekker’s father says that an additional 16,000 euros are needed to fund repairs to the boat and allow her family and support team to travel to visit her during her journey.

My repairs only cost US$1667
