Re: HI->Tahiti Dingbats found after 5 months

Sounds as if they were not sailors. At least they didn't have to eat the dogs.

With all due respect, once one gets past Tahiti food is darn near free. There are hardware stores on Raro, Vava'u, Tutuila, and Upolu. You can have anything you want fabricated in Suva, Apia, or Pago.

Of course, if one eats only granola bars and dried apricots, it might be a difficult trip.

It's a setup for the book and/or movie.

The tiger shark is a solitary, mostly nocturnal hunter...and typically does not eat 45ft sailboats.
Even a brief Internet search returns info on their group behaviour. But I would imagine such a group thing is more likely inshore with food abundant. Offshore predators need larger area (fewer fish) and very often live, indeed, solitary lives.

You are right though on them generally feeding on fish rather than boats.

;-)

I knew this woman Jen in Honolulu. She was always a few bricks short of a full load. She had previously lost a small liveaboard sloop off of Ala Moana park in Waikiki. I heard she was lost at sea and wasn't surprised. Glad to hear that she made it though.

I'm just glad their dogs didn't pay the price and made it back safely.

Don't know these ladies but survival after that long at sea is an accomplishment for anyone at any level of experience, so my hat is off to them. But the quotes they're giving the various news agencies certainly make me wonder...

Me also on the dogs. They looked good for eating pasta and rice and no protein.

Something is rotten in Denmark.

Re: HI->Tahiti Dingbats found after 5 months

Sailing vessel WE IS LOST WOOF WOOF.

Most of us have been sailing and some long time cruising for many decades, and this whole thing wreaks of mickey mouse whale sludge.

Anyone calling their sailing vessel a SHIP.........first clue. The rest of the story is either due to total idocy, and not knowing jack dans about sailing or passage making .

No engine.....should be no electrical power to run anything on board due to dead batteries.

Most of us, on a hawaiito tahiti passage would have back up wind generators or solar . And a self steering vane .

That whole tale is wagging the dogs.

Something fishy here.
They likely provisioned for not only the passage, but for much of their intended stay in Tahiti.

Aside from that, of course we all question how things got to this point. But all the judgement calls by those who weren’t there, are really unbecoming.

Do you want to have a good look at the photos and then tell us what you think the windmill on the back of the yacht was for?
