Some yell. What about the yellowcake. You know the waste remains radioactively toxic for thousands of years. Solution from thinking uniquely. ......

Shoot the yellowcake into the sun. Yes. Use a massive thermonuclear reactor in our solar system to eradicate the waste from nuclear power. Of course 20 years ago this would have been thought totally uneconomic given the cost of rocket launches. Fast forward to today, we have seen a massive decrease in rocket launches and we can confidently say that sending a rocket upwards will see even greater decreases in the immediate to near term.

I'm begining to think that the waste could be put into impact resistant and radiation capturing large containers that are launched from a cargo space rocket. Each special container could have its own mini jet that is used to propel it towards the sun. When it hits the sun it will be destroyed along with its toxic content.

A whole new industry for space vehicles that of itself could spur even greater space developments. All while dramaticaly impacting carbon fuel consumption.

Dunno 'bout that one. I hear that stuff can kill ya. Was curious so tried some when I was 'down under' a few times. Not as bad as I had heard, but wasn't exactly enthused about bringing any home.

Nice kitty pic Weav, but I can't tell my spoiled rotten bulldog I said so.

An informative article worth a quick read, especially since it provides a much more balanced cost-benefit analysis than the portions you selectively quoted.

James Hansen and some colleagues have been advocating nuclear energy for quit some time.

Speaking of Dr Curry, her recommendation, as expressed last year, is
We should expand the frameworks for thinking about climate policy and provide a wider choice of options in addressing the risks from climate change. As an example of alternative options, pragmatic solutions have been proposed based on efforts to accelerate energy innovation, build resilience to extreme weather, and pursue no regrets pollution reduction. Each of these measures has justifications independent of their benefits for climate mitigation and adaptation. Robust policy options that can be justified by associated policy reasons whether or not human caused climate change is dangerous avoids the hubris of pretending to know what will happen with the 21st century climate.
Can we count on your support for these pragmatic solutions?

If I answer "yes" will I get to wear the hat? It's good to see you broadening your reading and this is a well-articulated -- albeit very general & abstract -- synopsis from a scientist who seems to look at all the prevailing evidence and render balanced & objective opinions. Curry agrees that AGW is real but questions how much influence humans are having vs. natural forces. Some nerve she's got!😱 Just about everyone agrees there are valid reasons other than the risk of MMGW to reduce fossil fuel consumption. You forgot to bold her last sentence where she stated that "robust policy options" must be justified.

... I take that as a 'no', with your skepticism around MMGW as the excuse, and ignoring the many other non-MMGW reasons and benefits for taking most of the same steps.

You've shown again & again that you'll take other posters' opinions any way you like, whether it's truthful & accurate or not. Kinda like the way you see the world in the way you like.

Heh. This from a guy who's papered over the dominant knee-jerk rightwing anti-AGW position with "science".

Just like Dr. Curry, right? If you only knew . . . . But that's the failing of making assumptions with inadequate information, getting seduced by simplicity, and stereotyping other people. Arrogance + ignorance = an ideologue.

Many countries in the developed world only are, slowly, beginning to take concrete steps to shift a small portion of their energy needs when practicable away from fossil fuels, and are electing governments who have pledged to go in this direction, often by failing to fully disclose renewable energy's true costs and technological limitations to their constituencies. Whether or not you accept the warnings around AGW, the steps undoubtedly have other justifications and benefits but must be weighed against the economic & social costs. Such as eventually weaning countries off of an economic dependence on low fossil-fuels, regardless of prices.
With flailing world economies, a crazy US election pending, the EU starting to disintegrate, a growing threat of worldwide terrorism, nuclear proliferation from rogue states, and public confidence in govt.'s ability to fix any of it at an all-time low, you are advocating for artificially destroying the benefits of low energy prices for millions of people so we might be able to maybe mitigate avg. global temps. sometime in the future. Like I said, I understand.

Still don't see any significant ice melt within the mwp archipelago according to the Canadian government.

Hey, watch it!

Disagreeing about climate change is an amusing diversion, but when you start abusing Vegemite , the gloves are likely to come off.

Actually, I was brought up in the UK. Didn't relocated to the Antipodes 'til the age of 16.

So I know that Vegemite is better than Marmite

There will always be a cultural war over Marmite vs Vegemite.

I have a suspicion that both are highly addictive and either can fill the vit B spot if taken in sufficient quantities and for long enough. I grew up with Marmite so the 'taste' was already fixed in my psyche.... I prefer the instant 'bite' of the taste.

I do love the friendly rivalry that mentioning either Marmite or Vegemite ensues..

Seaworthy Lass, one of our mods is an Aussi Vegemite exponent. She also is known to be hardcore in her prep of a Vegemite toastie and has been known to use half a bottle of vegemite in the preparation...

Now that is real love...

I like 'Promite' and 'vegemite'. Raised on vegemite. But I don't like it on thick,, just a light spread on toast, buttered bread or Sao buscuits.

Marmite got some in the cupboard now after my daughter wanted to test it. I don't know what it is, but I doubt it's food
