Did it in '07. Great time, very social. If you are a recluse, or one of those that think they should be the only boat allowed on the water, its probably not for you.
The organizers do a very good job, and we developed some very good friendships with people we met on the Ha Ha, some of whom we are still cruising with.
Enjoy it.
John

I did it back in 1994, back in the great age of sail before steamships came along and ruined everything. At that time it was a social thing or two and a t-shirt. There was no flotilla. While a long way from being a recluse, I'm not sure if the mass communal anchorings of today's version would completely fit my taste, but they might also be a ton of fun. If you are just starting out, the more boats around, the more offers of help if you need it. I took three weeks going down Baja and intend to slow down next time.

Thank you, we are signed up for it this Oct and I am new to this. We are hoping to make friends and possibly find others who are sailing in the direction we are. Again, thank you for your input.

Also did it in '07 as crew on a friends boat. Met John on Meridian. Hey John I was crew on Destiny a C-42. Like John says, organizers do a great job but don't expect for them to "hand hold". Lots of fun. Fishing is good, sailing is better! I was one of those who didn't think the Ha Ha was my thing & now I can't wait to take my own boat. If only my 401K hadn't turned into a 104Nada.
Enjoy your trip.

I have done it twic, 2004 and 2007. It is a lot of fun. I am not the most social person , but really enjoyed it. You can choose your level of participation, attend all the beach parties or just watch. It is a very laid back crowd. The best thing is that you meet folks that have the same cruising interests you do and you keep seeing them for years as you move around. Well worth while.

I wanted to do it last year but ended up not doing it. Have the boat in SD now and am thinking that I will do it this year. I just need to see how thigs go. Want to fix a few things before I head for Mexico.

We're probably going to do it this year. We're taking off from Seattle sometime in late August/early September and bouncing down the coast. We are looking to be in San Diego sometime in October and do some provisioning/repairing as necesary before the trip.

It looks like we will be joining the haha in October. We are very excited to finally be leaving!
We are currently in Orange County waiting for my daughter to graduate high school and plan to head to San Diego some time in June or July.
We look forward to the social part of the haha and it seems like a great way to pick up crew.

You can spend literally hours reading all about it in Latitude 38. Just do a search on it in the mag. online.

My wife and I crewed on Duetto a 43' cat in the 2007 Ha Ha. It was a great experience for us. Very social and a very supportive rally. It was over too soon.

We will be going down. Depart Vancouver early August aboard 34' Catalina Blackdragon. Our first time in the Haha. Steve, Tracey, Foster (age 10) and Scupper (dog). Plan to hang in Mexico for the season.
