Compare that to up to 35 knots and 8 ft (less than 2.5 m).

But.. off Long Island in a F8.. and 300 miles offshore in a F8 are 2 different things.. and according to the CG/rescue the sea's were around 15ft...

Neither... just saying how it is/can be out there..
if you think dealing with 15ft sea's makes one gods gift.. stay coastal.. it gets worse..
if you disagree with my opinions I can live with that..
if your having a dig.. I can live with that as well..

If you've something constructive to say relating to personal experiences.. feel free...

just don't bore me with statistics copied and pasted from some magazine

I think this catamaran is a nice compromise of cost vs. features, speed vs. comfort. If I had a deposit on a hull, I would not bail. If it's a design flaw/weakness or construction flaw, they'll figure it out and fix it.

They are relatively small company, not some gigantic corporation conglomerate, and they must have put a huge amount of time, $, energy, creativity into this boat. Lots of skin in the game, and I'm sure there are quite a few people who had a disappointing week. I hope the new owner can recover the boat, and very glad that nobody was hurt.

Looking forward to hearing what really happened, and given the background of those involved, I'll bet we get details.

Did anyone hear if Gregor Tarjan was aboard too? I watched that Coast Guard rescue video, but couldn't make out any faces.

I'm always a bit sorry after I post that I don't care for the looks of a boat because I know someone out there will think they are the best looking boats around. I hope too that they recover their boat and gear and can repair her for then next trial. It would be a shame to see all the time and expense building her wasted. It's always said to see a boat abandoned and left to its own devices. There have been recoveries and there have been quite a few that found their own way to shore.

I suppose the safer argument still holds in that many monos will sink with serious rudder impact but i would have thought that there would (or should) have been some way to sail. Earlier someone mentioned both hulls have emergency tillers.

I would say she is unsinkable by how she was floating so very high. Perhaps bailing was to keep engines OK as you suggested. I suspect they were in no danger of sinking but considered they could not get anywhere particually cross back over the Gulf Stream. Shame.

We will eventually find out what has actually happened rather than speculation and I suspect it will not be too difficult to modify the vessel to resolve the issues for later vessels.

Whilst the conditions at 15 ft during rescue did not seem too bad The damage apparently happened in much worse conditions a day or two earlier. There were some pretty nasty winter storms in USA a few days back I believe. Not a real good time of year to tackle that area with a new vessel.

I hope the vessel is recovered. Always a chance whilst a vessel is floating.

Well I did around 18,000 miles in 2012... only managed 5,350 last year.. nothing this year.. yet..

I type a lot.. lolol
