Raytech RNS and Windows 7 and Windows XP

Has anyone running Raytech RNS full version 6.1 (onboard hooked up to a Raymarine E120 via a HS Hub) replaced Windows XP with Windows 7? I know Vista wont work but will Windows 7?

I have the Raytech RNS software running on Windows 7, but haven't yet gotten back to the boat in order to hook it up to the system. It did install easily and runs without a problem.

Hmm, I tried to install on a laptop with Windows 7 home, and it wouldn't. I emailed Raymarine and got this back:

Raymarine has not and is not currently planning to perform official testing in conjunction with Windows 7. As such, Raymarine's support of RayTech software in conjunction with Windows 7 is limited at this time. However, we have had some informal success in evaluating Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate with RayTech using the procedures listed below.

To install RayTech RNS 6.1 and RayTech Planner v6.1 in Windows 7 Professional or Windows 7 Ultimate:


1 - Right Click on the RayTech software installation executable found on the RayTech Planner CD (setup.exe) that you have downloaded from Raymarine's web site (raytech6_1.exe) and select Properties

2 - Click on the Compatibility Tab within the Properties dialog

3 - Place a tick in the box where it specifies 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:", select "Vista Service Pack 2" from the supplied list, and then click on the OK button

4 - Double click the RayTech software installation executable and run the installation. If prompted by UAC to continue select Yes.

5 - Installation should complete and when run RayTech (START->Programs->Raymarine RayTech Navigator), the program will prompt you to select which version you have (Full/Upgrade Go to Step 7, Planner Go to Step 6).


6 - If you have RayTech Planner then select the third option in the list an use the software in planning mode. You are now done with this procedure.


To interface to a Multifunction Display, you will need to do these additional steps


7 - Click on the Windows Orb in the bottom left and select Control Panel

8 - Select 'View network status and tasks' which is just under 'Network and Internet'

9 - In the light blue column on the left select 'Change adapter settings'

10 - Double click on the Network adapter that is going to be used for SeaTalkhs

11 - Select 'Properties' in the new dialogue box that appears

12 - Remove the tick from 'Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

13 - Press OK then Press OK again. You can now close down the Network connections box

14 - Start RayTech and Select Onboard and the Instrument Configuration should appear. If the UAC box appears select Yes

15 - Select SeaTalkhs > 'Yes, this computer is currently connected to my boat network' > Choose the network adapter from the list

16 - When the Popup appears that asks you to OK the modifications select 'OK'

17 - Another Pop up may appear telling you the IP address is incompatible. Press Cancel (As OK launches Planning mode)

18 - Press OK to Reboot the PC.

19 - RayTech should now run fine in Onboard mode

So, it should run on 7 Pro or 7 Ultimate.
