The tiki 38 is a fine boat, I do not know of any sloop rigged ones though. The tiki 30 may be a better pick for you if you do not need the amount of accommodation of 30.

The 30 would be simpler and faster to build, two people could have one built from scratch in two years. Also the 30 is on the edge of trailerable.

I do like all the deck space of a tiki 38 though. As you know the length of the boat is not a true indication as to the actual volume of boat from 30 to 38 ft.

The reason i am a fan of ole Jimmies boats is that they have stood the test of time and are probably the cheapest way to own a new cat.

The tiki 26 will fit the bill for me as a confirmed bachelor but it does have some drawbacks like adequate shelter from the sun. This is a project I will look into in the future. But to me the plusses far outweigh the minuses.

Currently into a complete tear down and refit of a 32 Monohull. The Admiral would shoot me if I abandoned this project for another. No cancel that..... I think I would shoot myself.

But I'm thinking there just might be a Tiki in our future.

I have just finished making and installing my "storm hatches'' on my tiki 26. The hatches are just wide enough for me to squeeze thru.

make sure to use some neopreme,or soft closed cell foam where the underside of the hatch meets the combing to create a watertight seal or driven water will force its way past

If you not started the centre deck yet may I suggest you do a Tiki 21 style flat deck as opposed to the bench seats either side... and use bean bags for seats... less slamming... for sun protection knock up a spray hood... or dodger as the yanks call them... gives you a great sea berth on deck to boot..

Thanks fellas for the heads up. Boatie i have built the cockpit, but like you suggest when the time comes to go over the horizon i am thinking of putting in a slatted deck.

Nice job on the hatch. I've been wondering about what to do for that very problem. I did add Bomar hatches to the front of the berth to get some through ventilation on tropical nights and to let a little light into that part of the hull.

A soruce for closed cell foam is GRAINGERS, square, rectangular, round, semi round. I used their 3/8 round for my Atkin Hoyle portlites. About $15(US) for 25 feet.

Can I rejuvenate this thread to ask if anyone has been out there sailing in a Tiki 26 recently? I've been forming a plan to get cruising and this model looks like it has a lot going for it.

It seems like they're just about the cheapest boat that is capable of ocean crossings, can carry enough for two people, and are fast on most points of sail, with the down side being cramped accommodations that I could tolerate on a passage and extend with a deck tent when stationary. The big issue would be whether one could be made suitable for longer cruising in British weather, or if I would need to go to the med and not come back if I wanted to stay out longer that the two weeks in August when the sun shines on Britain. Anyone have any insight?

You mentioned earlier bilge keels which drew my attention. Personally given the likely budget I would choose something like this over the Tiki as just that more "liveable" unless you like camping.
