Annapolis Sailboat Show: Go or No-Go?

The Newport Boat show has made an official announcement cancelling this year's show. Does anyone here have info on whether the Annapolis show will be held or not? It would be nice to make plans, reservations, etc... but haven't heard whether it's a "Go" or not...
And what about displays, exhibits, vendors, etc participating?

I haven't missed a year in 25 plus years. I think this year will either cancel or the vendor count will be a fraction of normal. We'll see.

It still seems to be a GO as far as the show organizers are concerned... I am getting marketing spam from them every few days regarding Cruisers University and vendors and so on. It is already scaled down in terms of the number of boats and exhibitors though. A few boats I wanted to see that were there last year already bailed for this year. From my emails with a couple boat vendors, the boat list on the show website appears to be pretty up to date. I know they have canceled all evening parties/receptions/activities.

If it actually happens, I plan to attend using my tickets from the Spring boat show that was cancelled....they are being honored.

That said...I would not buy any non refundable travel tickets were I you... the situation is still all too dynamic. Luckily a lot of airlines are being generous with reschedules and refunds.

I am an exhibitor and a CU instructor. I have paid for my booth, flights, hotel, and arranged for my CU class.. So far the organizers assure the show is on, but its subject to the whims of COVID, City, County, and State leaders of course. Newport was cancelled in part to keep out of staters from bringing the virus in. It would not surprise me if MD leaders worry about the same. Still a couple months out so time will tell.

I know some CU instructors are worried and some are possibly running into COVID related travel challenges. Hopefully it all works out and we see everyone with smiles hiding behind masks!

Clearly with all things related to Covid-19 the situation remains fluid and uncertain and gathering increases exposure and contact thus real hazards.

2020 SHOW POLICIES:

The following regulations have been put in place for the 2020 United States Powerboat Show (Oct 1-4) and United States Sailboat Show (Oct 8-12). As state and federal guidelines are defined, we will continue to update this list.

Daily attendance to the shows will be regulated through pre-sold tickets. Each day will have a strict maximum capacity level.
Anyone entering showgrounds is required to wear a face mask at all times.
Anyone entering showgrounds will be temperature screened. All attendees are encouraged to park at the Navy Marine Corps Stadium for temperature checks, ticket scanning, and hand stamps. Stations will also be located at Yacht Basin Gate and Main Gate areas.
Tent configurations have been altered to include one-way only walkways through all tents and air handling systems purifying and moving air.
Touchless hand sanitizing and washing stations, as well as face mask dispensers, will be made accessible throughout the show.
Showgrounds will close each day at 6:30pm (5:00 p.m. on the final day of each show). Exhibitors and attendees will have 30 minutes to make their way to the exits. After this, cleaning and disinfection of the show premises will begin.
All meetings, classrooms, workshops, and VIP areas will be limited to 50% capacity, allowing for proper physical distancing.
No after-hours events will be allowed on the show grounds this year.
Due to Maryland Health Department guidelines, no dogs or strollers will be allowed this year.

Yet, Health officers from Maryland’s five largest counties and Baltimore City sent a letter Monday afternoon to the state health department asking for renewed restrictions on bars, restaurants and other establishments to curb the recent spike in coronavirus cases.

Those orders, given last month by Gov. Larry Hogan, eased restrictions on gatherings and indoor activities such as eating in restaurants and visiting malls and recreational establishments. The orders came with limits, such as the number of people served at a time and a requirement for masking indoors.

The letter said local jurisdictions were “prepared to act quickly” on their own but would “prefer for the state to take action to create a unified, standardized approach to address this resurgence of cases.”

“We are writing to share our concerns regarding the recent increase in daily cases across the state and impact of the virus over the past week,” said the letter signed by the health officers from Baltimore City and the counties of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George’s.

“This has been evidenced throughout many of our jurisdictions by increased daily case totals, increased rates of transmission and increasing Covid related hospitalizations and critical care usage,” it says. “We are writing to ask that the state take action to curb these trends, including revisiting the activities allowed under the current Phase 2 executive orders.”

On May 13, Governor Larry Hogan announced the beginning of Stage One of the ‘Maryland Strong: Roadmap to Recovery,’ which includes moving from a Stay at Home order to a Safer at Home public health advisory and the gradual reopening of retail, manufacturing, houses of worship, and some personal services.

On June 5, Maryland moved into Stage Two of recovery with the safe and gradual reopening of workplaces and non-essential businesses. Additional reopenings through Stage Two were announced on June 10, which allowed indoor dining and outdoor amusements to resume on June 12.

Marylanders are advised to heed all state and local public health guidance:
● All Marylanders are still safer at home, particularly older and more vulnerable populations
● Employers should continue to encourage telework for their employees whenever possible
● Marylanders should not use public transportation unless it is absolutely necessary
● Everyone should continue wearing masks or face coverings in public areas, businesses, and on public transportation
● Marylanders should continue practicing physical distancing, staying six feet apart when possible, and should avoid all large gatherings

CDC guidance:

COVID-19 cases and deaths have been reported in all 50 states, and the situation is constantly changing. Because travel increases your chances of getting infected and spreading COVID-19, staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from getting sick. At this time, the CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential travel.

If it is on, you should go, assuming you are healthy and not in a risk group. If you are at risk, then you have to weigh the risks and benefits. Only you can make that decision. I am going if it is still on.

It is really unfortunate that the US Sailboat Show has been canceled for 2020. We were really looking forward to participating this year! However, for those who are in the Annapolis area, and interested in brokerage boats, we are moving forward with our 3rd Annual Bluewater Boat Show. We'll have 30+ boats on display (new and brokerage) as well as a select group of local vendors and marine businesses displaying their products and services. This is a small scale, open air event.
