Raymarine RL70C GPS Feed

Hello,

I'm trying to get a GPS feed to my Raymarine RL70C from an already installed NMEA 2000. The RL70C would normally get that signal from a compatible radar dome but I have a 2kw M92678 Pathfinder radar hooked up to the RL70. The radar is working perfectly but of course has no GPS feed. I have found that the RL70 manual shows wires at the power end for NMEA (0183) but have no idea what ones would hook to the NMEA 2000 and probably NMEA converter. Anyone been down this path before? My NMAE 2000 feeds a fuel Lowrance fuel flow monitor with a GPS antenna.

I don’t believe the RL70C supports NMEA 2000 at all

You need a nmea 2000 to 183 converter.

Assuming it can take nmea 183. It’s Likly normally seatalk.

Cheaper to get a small dedicated GPS pushing 0183
OR
A seatalk GPS

I had an RL70. It will accept NMEA183 just fine. It won’t do AIS.

So I have ordered a Yacht Devices NMEA Gateway YDG-03 that is supposed to attach the RL70 to my NMEA 2000. I'll update when I get it and install.

Various of the Yacht Devices converters can translate between N2K and either Seatalk1 or NMEA0183. If you are trying to get fast heading info (as well as GPS position) into the RL70 for the purposes of radar/chart overlay then you'll need to use the NMEA0183 input rather than seatalk. If you only care about position then seatalk will be probably be easier.

I'm not sure this is quite right. I used to have a rl70. and AIS via a watchmate 850 over nmea183..


I wish I could vierfiy, but I move to an es128 and vx8000.. so its now all different

The RL/SL series of MFDs does not support displaying AIS targets

So just to follow up on this: I got the the Yacht Devices YDNG-03. The hook up is as follows:


RL70C- orange wire NMEA data input (+ve) — to YDNG-03 TX+ Red wire

RL70C- yellow wire NMEA return (-ve) — to YDNG-03 TX- Black wire.


Nothing else gets connected. I ran a 5M Drop Cable from the device to the backbone. Works perfectly.



The device took a few weeks to arrive (to Georgia,USA) and was mailed from Russia. The company responded to my initial questions and was easy to work with.
