Mexico TIP w Trust Registered Boat?

Does anyone know have any knowledge of how to obtain a TIP for your boat in Mexico if it is CG Documented but in a trust.

My previous boat was in the same trust and I have a TIP for it but in applying for a TIP for my new boat it says you cannot get a TIP if the boat is in a trust.

Any ideas how to get around it?

Thanks,
R Day

If you're headed to Ensenada, contact Michelle Aguilar. She's an agent there and can assist. Text or WhatsApp her at +1 (619) 305-9385

mvweebles, thank you. I may do that. The 2 websites I have seen say it is not possible to get a TIP with a boat in a trust.

Not positive she can assist, but many people have their assets setup in a trust. Perhaps there is another document you will need to provide that authorizes you as the trustee. She has helped me import some large parts. Often it's just a matter of finding the right form. And not pissing off someone sitting behind a pane of glass.

Re: Mexico TIP w Trust Registered Boat?

Ok, so after much research I think I have finally found the answer. If you try to do it yourself and your boat is in a Trust... NO GO!

Mexico apparently does not recognize family trusts so you can't register for a TIP with your boat in one.

However, as with many things in Mexico, there is a workaround.

You need to hire an agent to do the paperwork. It seems they conveniently leave out the Trust part on the application (which you never see) and VOILA!

You have a TIP.

At least I will see if that works soon.

More to follow...
