Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

Yes, but only if you are holding the wheel. The whole point of the knot is that you can see the out of trim if the boat is on AP.

knot top dead center of steering wheel?

By the time the helm is hard over your sail trim is seriously bad. Like break the rudder bad if left unattended on some boats.

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

Yes, I wish I could tiller steer my boat but as it is currently designed you’d need a gorilla for a helmsman.

Good to get more info on hydraulic steering from people who actually have it, thank...

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

You might be able to tell me, do you find you get good feedback about sail trim through your hydraulic steering?

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

I had heard that many hydraulic steering systems don't give much in the way of force feedback?

I don't know if this is just one of those "internet facts" as I've never had a go on a boat with...

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

But... that does make me wonder, what do you do to check sail trim when you have hydraulic steering?

Curious.

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

Yep, we all figure out what works best for us. Just an option for us mechanical steering types.

But think how much the tiller steering purists are laughing at us now.

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

It’s not that those with hydraulic steering don’t NEED it, it’s just that it won’t work for them.

It’s just a way of knowing if your steering is in the straight ahead position. Good for...

Re: knot top dead center of steering wheel?

French whipping at 10 and 2. Lovely place to rest your hands to stop them slipping, particularly if the wheel (stainless) is wet.
