Re: Modern equivalent to an old boat

Anything George Buehler, was just a 50' dragonfly here in key west for 36K. It motored by this morning as I had my coffee. It was on craigslist days ago, maybe it had a happy new owner. Nice lookin...

Re: Installing a permanent mooring anchor in Howe Sound

I'm in lake champlain, between vermont and new york. Because the lake freezes all boats must be hauled, hauling cost money, hauled boats need storage on stands (more money), so no derelict boats at...

Re: Unbalanced diesel?

In early auto engines the internal parts were all balanced in the crank and the flywheel had "0" balance. As things became more massed produced motors were slapped together with less percision and...

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

That power cat you keep pushing is a great boat for many of us 2 person cruising teams. But its really so far off from what she wants and needs for her huge family. It appears she wants a condo like...

Re: Sailboat engine noise makes me nervous

Sounds like you need a '69 Charger with a couple of life jackets in the trunk.

Re: Realistic expectations for deep draft on the ICW

8 foot draft is to much by about 2 feet. If you wander out of the channel center in some places it gets shallow quick, with a 6' keel you can just head back to the middle with no worries. Many places...

Re: Atrocious Service from Defender

I like it to be christmas every day, so during the summer months I order 3-5 time a week. I always have something waiting on my doorstep. I shouldnt judge you because I dont know you, and because...

Re: Installing a permanent mooring anchor in Howe Sound

If you want to save cash and avoid the barge consider dropping your own. You could build one yourself, but since your asking I would skip that and buy one. Somewhere I have a older book that has a...

Re: Atrocious Service from Defender

I bet your hard pressed to find anyone else here who's not happy with defender. You can't base any judgement on one transaction. After you've made 50 or 100 orders get back to us. Your opinon will be...

Re: Completely Overwhelmed

I dont beleive the stated fuel burn can be near correct, maybe 4 gph per engine? It seems this large boat is more fuel thrifty than a marine trader 40? Correct me if I'm wrong but a lehman 120 in a...

Re: Hydra Cell D10 Pump for Watermaker

How large a boat is this going in? I'm a rare one here but I enjoy the fab and custom building far more than the sailing. I get 6 months away from my shop and I am so bored. A sunny island paradise...

Re: Battery life - Full time cruising

I bought 6 marine deep cycles (85 ah) from costco for $480, 510 ah total and this is my house bank. Solar and windgen, never run the diesel for charging, well maybe 10 times in the last 3 1/2 years....

Re: Raritan Electro Scan Hold-and-Treat Systems

Just my opinion but, I would rather have a large holding tank and pass on treatment. It seems like a feel good measure for those who use them, and I bet many users dont strictly adhear to NDZs,...

Re: Bahamian type fuel filter

Water seperating funnel maybe? Try defender or any large marine supplier. I would get a Racor 1000 and skip the funnel. The funnels tend to be very slow and as some fuel docks are busy, trying to...

Re: Anchor Question (sorry)

If you want windlass to last I would never pull the rode in until the chain is hanging straight down, and this requires the motor. I would bet most here never pull the boat to the anchor, even with...
