Re: autopilot

You might consider adding WH to your short list. They are very beefy, made in Washington State and use pretty much off-the-shelf components. Not sure about finding someone to install it, however. We...

Re: Building an Autopilot Base

I fabricated (and probably over-engineered) a platform for our WH autopilot, but I suspect it is very installation-specific. We have a center cockpit Pearson 422 so the autopilot ram is under the aft...

Re: Preparation Classes/ Training for Liveaboards

Definitely attend the SSCA GAM next weekend. You'll learn a bit, but will meet a lot of other cruisers and can learn from them.

Get a blog reader and 'follow' other cruisers. Most post about...

Re: What Did You Think Was Going To Happen?

We have small thin panels on the canvas. So far, no issues. Our main panels rotate up on the rails on the aft quarters but we really cant put them up in this wind

Re: What Did You Think Was Going To Happen?

We're still heading south, although the fronts may have other ideas. Certainly not going anywhere for a at least a couple more days.

Good luck getting in to Hopetown. It gets crowded this time of...

Re: What Did You Think Was Going To Happen?

Read once about training for astronauts at NASA. They try to get people to think 'what could kill me next?" and then go eliminate or fix that thing.

We've tried to adopt a slightly toned down...

Re: What Did You Think Was Going To Happen?

What are the odds? Three of us in the same anchorage. We're tucked up on the NE side. Feel bad for the guy who lost the dink. Looking at the wind, next stop is prob Cuba

Re: Newbie and a Pearson 422?s

Another 422 here, sitting in Eleuthera as i type this. Also did a complete refit including repower. Very satisfied with the boat. The crew is def the weak link in the system!

Also have lots of...

Re: "Sail Away"? What else is needed?

Will definitely echo the bit about spares. Think about anything that can go bad, even the propane solenoid valve (missed that one but had the parts to bypass it so 1/2 credit?)

We tend to think in...

Re: Crossing to Bahamas in an East Wind

All of us seem to be beating around the same bush. Its their country and we are guests. We owe them respect and adherence to their rules. The times we've been here, the officials have been very...

Hey there,

Maybe we'll see you out there. We're planning to leave Vero at dawn tomorrow (Tuesday) to cross the stream. Plan is to exit Ft P, hug the coast as long as the dying NW wind lasts -...

Re: Packing lists for sailing

Might be a little too open-ended for a decent response. We have lots of lists for all kinds of things that we developed as we got ready to cast off the lines. We have food lists, spare parts lists,...

Re: Rudder post leaking?

Many rudder posts do have a packing gland just like a prop shaft. On ours, the rudder quadrant has to come off to make room to back off the nut. Pretty easy job if you have good access. I prefer to...
