Re: Saildrives vs Inboard
I've just looked up the Ambassador Marine website and they are showing rope cutters for Volvo saildrives, at least for some models anyway. |

Re: Volvo saildrive diaphragm
Also, on another thread it's stated that you can't fit a rope cutter on a Volvo. Is that correct? |

Re: Saildrives vs Inboard
I was thinking of changing from a boat with a Yanmar to which I have attached a rope cutter to a Volvo. So I'm interested to know why you can't with a Volvo. Please and thanks |

Volvo saildrive diaphragm
It used to be the case that Yanmar saildrives had a double rubber diaphragm while Volvo Penta had a single diaphragm. Is that still the case? I'm particularly interested in a Volvo D 50 with... |

Floating debris
There was a news item the other day about a ship that had been abandoned a year ago and spent the past year floating around the Atlantic eventually to get washed up on the west coast of Ireland. AIS... |

Re: Closest true wind of cat?
Great, thanks. I don't have a specific model in mind but I'm looking into the possibility of moving from a mono to a cat, so I'm basically trying to understand the implications. I can't imagine that... |

Re: Closest true wind of cat?
Thank you for this. I had thought, from what I read, that cats basically only sailed downwind, but if they can do a 50 degree true wind angle, that's not too bad at all. |

Closest true wind of cat?
Hi. What is the closest true wind angle a standard Lagoon-type cat can sail? Thanks |

How does an electric toilet work?
How does a basic electric toilet (eg, Jabsco) work? How is the material evacuated? Does it have any "crushing" mechanism? Thanks |

Prop wash with twin rudders
Hi Can I ask if anyone has experience manoeuvring under power on one of new type Jeanneau Sun Odysseys (eg, 349, 410) as these have a shaft drive, which is very far aft and twin rudders. I would... |

Crabbing sideways
Can a cat crab sideways under power for docking? If so, how is it done? I can understand how you can spin it playing one engine off another but going sideways, yes/no? (Mono cruiser curiosity) Thanks |

Re: Advantages and disadvantages of cats for solo sailing
There are of course a whole pile of reasons for changing. I highlighted the manoeuvring part because that's where I most wanted feedback. Out at sea whether on a mono or cat there's generally room... |

Re: Advantages and disadvantages of cats for solo sailing
Yes, there is a big cost involved in changing because, suddenly, all the depreciation that has ocurred on the Jeanneau becomes "real" and, in the end, may well kill off catamaran dreams. The problem... |

Advantages and disadvantages of cats for solo sailing
I'm mulling over changing from a mono to a cat. I sail solo, and one of the attractions of the cat is the greater manoeuvrability in port of the two engine layout. [When I first got a mono, it never... |

Re: Sailing cat speed under engine power
Why I asked the question was because I was wondering whether, if I bought a non-specialised sailing cat, I could go faster under power than under a similar length monohull, and it seems, based on the... |

Re: Sailing cat speed under engine power
If this is the case, a Lagoon being a fairly standard cat, then the same limitations effectively apply. |

Re: To "Lock" or not to "Lock" SD50 Props

Re: How to properly maintain AGM batteries during the winter
In the book the "12V Bible" the author says that leaving a battery on a trickle charger for an extended period is even worse for it than to be left lying around unused for a whole winter.... |
