Prop wash with twin rudders

Hi
Can I ask if anyone has experience manoeuvring under power on one of new type Jeanneau Sun Odysseys (eg, 349, 410) as these have a shaft drive, which is very far aft and twin rudders. I would have thought that this configuration provided little possibility for prop wash effect and might make a bow thruster essential for manoeuvring.
Thanks

Re: Prop wash with twin rudders

Most of these twin rudder boats are pretty nimble creatures, but... they do need some way on so water moves across the rudder. You can't punch the throttle and have the boat start to turn before it moves forward.

You don't NEED a bow thruster, but it makes life easier for an inexperienced sailor.

They are great sailing machines, but those rudders are very vulnerable.

Re: Prop wash with twin rudders

I have shaft drive, twin rudders and bow thruster on my Amel 50. The rudders are pretty ineffective when I start moving astern. I usually keep them centered and use the bow thruster for direction control. If it's not windy I may use the rudders, but I have way more control with the bow thruster. I don't have much prop walk either.
