Re: ZF SD10 Sail Drive Replacement

It's worth trying to obtain some generic seals. At least in Australia.
My replacement set from the Nanni/ZF supplier were about $300 !
I took them to a seal place before I installed them and was...

Re: Saildrive Prop Shaft Repair

Thanks Jochen.
When I got the shaft out in our haulout, luckily there was only the faintest wear at one point so I've just cleaned it up and put the new seals in.

I'll attach photos here of the...

Re: Alternatives to propspeed.

Hi Paperboard,
Did you etch prime first or do any other prep before the zinc spray?

Re: Saildrive Prop Shaft Repair

I notice on some of these photos of the shafts with the speedi sleeves in place that there is often a gap between the sleeves.
My shaft seal instructions are that they should fit back to back, as I...

Re: ZF SD10 Sail Drive Replacement

Parallax Cat, thanks for your comment.
Which trick did you mean for the shaft? Sleeve or coating?

How thin are the sleeves and where are you likely to obtain them? ( I'm in Australia)
How is the...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Oh, interesting.
I think the ad said it was built with epoxy.
It's tempting.
But I already have a boat...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Well, 75k in Aussie dollars is about 50k in USD so maybe not as ambitious as it might sound.
The second hand boat market has been quite hot for the last two years too. But may be cooling now.
Looks...

Re: New Sail Wrinkles

Thanks for the extra pictures.
That definitely looks bad.
A new sail should not have that many wrinkles.

You say the sailmaker is putting in a warranty claim. Meaning it was manufactured...

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Thanks for your reply Roy.
How do you key the old non skid before painting? (Assuming you are not sanding off all the old non skid.. or are you?)

Re: New Sail Wrinkles

I'm a sailmaker.
Definitely something weird going on there.
The lines of wrinkles don't coincide with all seams, battens reefs or whatever.
They just seem regular, roughly parallel with the foot....

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Hi Roy,
Your boat is looking real good.

I was wondering about your non-skid, as I am going to need to redo ours.
(We've got a 1975 Tristar)
Our non-skid looks to be done with sprinkled grit on...

Re: Melbourne Solo Sailor Survives Falling in Water

Yeh, fishing off the swim platform, untethered, single handed was foolish, and I'm sure he realises that now.
I'm sure the 60 Minutes payment will cover his expences.

I want to hear the details...

Re: BRUNTONS PROPELLERS GIVEAWAY - ends Oct 18th

Thanks for the opportunity!
I would love a APS-H5 for our Sail Drive on our trimaran.
Other props don't seem to have enough drive.
I like the idea of variable pitch to suit conditions.

Re: Perkins no start overnight, no leaks!

Good to hear. May not be the perfect solution but at least it's working.

What's that red hose, that attaches above the injectors, do?

We would Love an Autoprop!

We have a 35' Tristar trimaran with a tiny folding prop with hardly any pitch. Doesn't give much...

Re: Perkins no start overnight, no leaks!

I feel your pain DoldrumDayz. Have done plenty of 4-108 bleeding in my days.
Perhaps you can just bypass the lift pump, if you have the 12v inline pump after the Racor primary. No real need for the...

Thanks for your help Jim and Smac.

Weird electrical Gremlin

So what happens sometimes is, after I...

Re: Which multihull would YOU choose for mostly solo long distance cruising?

Ejlindahl, jdazey, thanks for your added information!
I am super keen to find the history and story of this boat. Between Al and the previous owner to me, I know not much so far.
