Re: Bronze shaft log corrosion
Thank you guys, I appreciate your input. Replacing the stern log / shaft tube is definitely Plan A and I will be implementing this option as soon as it becomes feasible. But as you probably... |

Re: Bronze shaft log corrosion
Thanks for your reply. I'd love to hear more about your fiberglass "shoe" that you built. Was this in response to a similar situation to mine? At the very least, I'm hoping that this could hold me... |

Bronze shaft log corrosion
Hi all, I recently pulled off my dripless shaft seal to discover pieces of the bronze tube flake off with it. This was of course disheartening, but I decided to grind away to see if I could... |

Troubles with my outhaul
Hi all, I have trouble manipulating my outhaul and as such, generally don't touch it. I'd like for this to not be the case, but I don't understand what is happening inside the boom in order to... |

Re: Joining Anchor Chain
The reason for this work-around is the great difficulty in obtaining specific parts where I am located. I have some friends planning a trip to visit who will be used as mules for my myriad marine... |

Re: Joining Anchor Chain
I know this is an old thread and an even older topic, but I've got to ask the question somewhere. Ever heard of joining two lengths of chain by back-splicing a short length of three strand rope? ... |

Re: Baja HaHa 2020
Thanks for the replies. While I imagine that the bars in Cabo and the anchorages on the way would indeed be highlights under normal circumstances, they are not the drivers for our planned voyage,... |

Baja HaHa 2020
Is there anybody out there with plans to join the (tentative) Baja HaHa rally this year. Traditionally leaving in early November, the rally's organizers are holding off on announcements until October... |

Re: Running a windlass off of inverter
I like this idea. The only negative that I can think of is the extra weight of the battery and the space that it takes up. I really like the idea of having the longer run at a higher voltage and... |

Re: Running a windlass off of inverter
Thanks for all of the replies! I think that I am going to use the 10% voltage drop allowance and shoot for a 2 AWG to land around 5-7%. This should save me $300 or so and will be much easier to run... |

Re: Running a windlass off of inverter
My cable run would come directly from my battery box, which is above the engine, in the companionway. Due to the curves and turns that it would need to take, I'm estimating a distance of 35'. For... |

Re: Running a windlass off of inverter
Wow, 10% voltage drop?! I'm still in the design phase and using the ABYC maximum allowable voltage drop of 3%. I would favor the install of 2AWG wire, but would be nervous about it ever after. |

Running a windlass off of inverter
I currently do not have a windlass, just undresized ground tackle and oversized forearms. This setup is temporary and when researching options, I am torn between an electric and manual windlass... |

Re: Battleborns with Balmar 614 and not smoking your alternator
I wonder if I can jump onto this thread as it is recent and relevant... I currently have (3) 100 ah Battle Born batteries and a West Marine AGM starter battery and charge them both with shorepower... |
