Re: Trailering express cruiser... what size?

That's ample, but how much experience do you have towing? This is not an insignificant combination and this could be a lot of work and stress if you are not up to the task.

Re: Global catastrophe / SHTF "survivable locations"

This is quality advice. Sadly, you probably still die trying to defend it.

Being able to bake quality bread will work. :smitten:

Re: Global catastrophe / SHTF "survivable locations"

That is the lie fed to us by the government, so that we will each fight to maintain, and re-subscribe to the concept of "law and order", and correspondingly the jurisdiction of the summary courts. ...

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

Sure, all normal polite discourse. Some a-hole skipper might be prepared to show off his ego there, but I doubt he'd have many crew - no repeat ones anyway.

Proper leaders don't make mistakes...

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

Sure, as will I. So why are you directing some discussion at me rearding that? If that is normal operation of the forum, then it is not my business to criticise your execution of it, and...

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

Listening to what? Perhaps if there were some facts?

Wow, you're a moderator. Should you fueling a fire such as this? Moderators should remain impartial rather than backing abusers.

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

I am not familiar with either, nor would your typical cruising be either. Keen to hear why that is so "interesting".

That's a projection. Your suggestion is wrong. I don't use others'...

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

Not usually. Crews' decision that "we are a unit" (a play on the concepts of fairness and equality) generally leads to their demise during an emergency, as team "members" decide to act on their own...

Re: Please Help: Internet / Cellular / Data / Wifi

Well you would fail a job interview with me seconds after you spouted all that crap. Techs get to do what the radio engineers and managing directors tell them, not the other way around. Readers...

Re: Global catastrophe / SHTF "survivable locations"

Get some weapons and a gnarly crew, fast.

The hordes will come and take whatever is yours. A long string of them will die trying, or you will die. Anyone who has anything useful will give it to...

Re: Anchor chain stretch?

Try towing a car with a chain and you will get your answer. Don't try this with a car you want to keep.

Chains don't stretch.

Re: Please Help: Internet / Cellular / Data / Wifi

I'm an internet service provider.

A cellular repeater with a mast-top antenna will give you great coverage for your portable 4G devices. These have limitations and they should be be...

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

Nice yacht! :thumb:

The closer truth is, these people were most unfortunate to be onboard with a skipper with balls bigger than brains. Don't be that person, either skipper or crew. :thumb:

Re: Yacht sinks off Bay of Islands in 40knots

Yup, I live here. I have a couple of met qualifications, as I am a pilot as well as a sailor - I don't randomly blow my mouth off on things I have no knowledge of, regardless of your suggestions. ...

Re: Flexofold prop FELL OFF!!

Re: Serpentine vs dual V belt?

If you are using it offshore, the vee belts will be far easier to source should you have a mishap.

If you do go to poly-vee belts, consider adding an overrun clutch to the alternator for torsional...

Re: Trolling behind 56 foot Cat. Equipment?

Google search "TLD50 combo". Lever-drag type reels are the easiest to use and are strong and reliable.

You want a spool of 75% 24kg braid topped off with the remainder 24kg nylon. Simply tow...

Re: Attempt at un-effing boat's electrical system

It is simple. TWO simple systems fed with a changeover switch. Who'd have seen that fault coming? Certainly not the person who designed or installed it.

I've seen a homebuilt aircraft burn to a...

Re: To rewire, or to leave alone?

The saving grace here isn't the soldered connections - it's the protection of the same by exclusion of moisture and oxygen.

Soldered connections aren't the best way to join wires. Without...

Re: What size circuit breaker for windlass?

If you want the correct fix, you really should have a dedicated battery for the windlass, with little to no length of cable at all. Therein begins the the problem of charging it correctly - the...
