Re: Electric Hookah Blu3 Nemo

I have one. It's fine and does what they say. As long as the hose length works for you, the only real drawback is cost. I got the version with 2 batteries. But the 60 minutes of down time per...

Re: Who pays for the captain?

In my limited experience (4 purchases, 3 sales) - whoever owns the boat operates the boat (or their representative does). Whoever asks for a haul out and inspection pays for a haul out and...

Re: Com-pac 16 or Newport 17 as an intro to sailing

My first sailboat was a Com Pac 16. It was a pretty boat I enjoyed it in the PNW on both Puget Sound and a number of lakes. You're right that it is a stubby, little fixed keel, but we ran it right...

Re: Best Not Electric Coffee Maker

I'm sure I didn't pay $68 for storage - those are the items I have, not sure what they cost back when I bought them. I've also never had a problem with my grinder breaking. But each of these items...

Re: Aluminum anodes not preventing corrosion

I got one and took some time to learn how to use it (and paid an ABYC corrosion smart guy to do the first survey at my dock). But I have an aluminum boat so it's almost mandatory. There's...

Re: Aluminum anodes not preventing corrosion

OK, that is very odd. Like you, I understand aluminum anodes are superior to zinc in many applications. I agree that white powder does seem to indicate galvanic corrosion.

I currently have zinc,...

Re: Is a light charging cycle harmful

Correct, in theory my panels at 100% would produce more than 20 amps. But one or the other gets some shading so I never expect to be at 100%. I've actually never produced 20 amps.

Re: Galley countertops

I have had formica (worked fine but didn't love it), wood (looked great and worked well, I'd do it again), Corian (worked fine and looked very good, but had to be professionally installed), and most...

Re: Is a light charging cycle harmful

Thanks for that feedback, I appreciate it. The boat is at my house, so if I were down 50 or 75 Ah, I could leave the solar on until it was back to as close to 100% as possible (even if that took...

Is a light charging cycle harmful

I have 3 new Group 31, Crown, FLA batteries making 390 Ah bank at 12V. I also have 360 watts of solar and a 20 amp, Renogy MPPT controller.

I have about a 1.5 to 1.75 amp draw when the boat is...

Re: Bulk vs Absorb Voltage

I see the wisdom in this comment - but sometimes the experts leave me scratching my head.

I did just as you recommended a couple weeks ago and contacted Interstate Batteries. One of their...

Re: Renewing teak cockpit table

For tables that get moved around and used hard, I like using oil/varnish blend. My favorite off the shelf is Daly's Seafin Teak Oil. It has enough varnish that with enough coats it will build a...

Re: Domestic 12v batteries not going above 13.1v with 500w solar?

Pete, how many cycles would you say your batteries needed to get to full capacity?

Re: Teak and Stainless suppliers in Southern California

I've never heard of cumaru before. I just looked it up in the wood database and it looks similar to Ipe as far as workability. I think considering these options is a smart idea for the OP if they...

Re: Help me not kill another battery bank

A question for the collective smart folks - is shallow discharge a possibility in killing this bank? You don't say what your amp hour usage is overnight, but you mention you recharge 100% during the...

Re: Sun Shade Material

I'm going through the same decision. I had to decide what was the priority and how I would use the shades. For me, I don't spend a lot of time at public docks, so using them as a privacy screen was...

Re: Winterizing in the Chesapeake

I recommend winterizing the raw water side of the engine. Running it is not a good option. At a bare minimum, if you can do this with your set up, drain all the raw water from the system. What...

Rule 2: Never listen to me.

Having clarified those two rules: If you are still within all of the specified terms of the purchase agreement,...

Re: Powered Catamarans

I agree with most of your comments. But I think you can find them smaller than 50'. I'm 38' - much smaller than that might be a problem.

Re: Lightening; real or fake?

I'm only 20 years out of date - but I recall PETN detcord burned around 6500 meters per second. Which I'd call pretty fast!

Ah yes, you're right. I stumbled over the grammar in the first sentence and didn't catch "used". My apologies.

Re: Liveaboard Power Cats in the 30 to 36ft range,, are there any?

I wouldn't call her a comfy "liveaboard" - but I've been aboard and lived...I guess that's the same thing.

38' x 14' x 2'9". Aluminum construction. Designed by Scott Jutson - you'd have to...

Re: Why not a drum winch?

I have a Lone Star Marine GX-4. You have to account for the weight high on the boat and retrieving the line can require having a person forward guiding the line on the drum. I've not had a problem...
