Re: New Victron MPPT Firmware

So is there a way to send the real end amps info that are flowing into battery to the mppt using the BMV712? Or some other way? Like a add on wireless shunt?

Re: Limit to the number of 12V solar panels in series?

Yep, but this is a fold up panel I only set out when I can. Cheers.

Limit to the number of 12V solar panels in series?

Looking at how many 75watt 18V mp panels can be put into series for a string? Is there a voltage limitation from the internal bypass diodes? I would like to go 4 in series each string into a mppt,...

Re: Do cell terminals & cell links need corrosion protection?

Thank you aybabtme, that is what I wanted to hear. Since we coat all our lugs, terminals etc it just made absolutley no sense to me having bare copper or even bare tinned lugs on a battery you expect...

Do cell terminals & cell links need corrosion protection?

Everyone who shows how to build these LFP batteries doesn't talk at all about it. I would have thought a tiny amount of oxidation on the copper is unavoidable and will lead to a problem with...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

For monitoring the cells I use those basic digital volt meter displays one at each cell just to get an idea if one is in trouble or any obvious mismatch when going to 100% reseting the battery...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

I would check more like every 100-300cycles if they are well matched, would you agree?
Does that simple balance method get the same end result as an active BMS unit? Sounds like you will always keep...

Re: Can the Honda EU10 run the Sterling pro charge ultra 50A at full?

Thanks, can you say how many hours a week yours ran? can I assume the yamaha EF1000is would work too? It has better features over the honda.

Re: Can the Honda EU10 run the Sterling pro charge ultra 50A at full?

Thanks for that:thumb:

that 1000w for 30mins must just be some marketing i read. I should have known better.

45mins for 750w continuous is crazy. Does this sound right for a aged unit to anyone...

Re: Can the Honda EU10 run the Sterling pro charge ultra 50A at full?

While charging there is minimal loads (fridge and few others small loads).

I would run it occasionally not rely on it much. You mention good points, I also read that in hot climate the unit's...

Can the Honda EU10 run the Sterling pro charge ultra 50A at full?

I think it will given it's 0.99PF rating, but would like some experienced input before I spend the big dollars on the Honda. Last thing I won't is to have to try & return it, and I don't won't the...

Re: Batteries died after 28 years of service.

lol, they were most likely dead by the age of 12. I have a drill li battery pack 14yrs + that still going well but probabaly 20% capacity left. Seen cheap car starters get 12yrs because they cycle 5%...

Re: Questions about Dielectric Greases

Thanks. sounds like this stuff is not a Dielectric grease. Does it leave anything behind on the metals after many years? I brought a small tube online & it was $$ to ship.

Some amazon reviewers...

Questions about Dielectric Greases

Just a few questions as I have no experience with this stuff. Done a search online but cab't find anything.
How long do they provide corrosion resistance between mating surfaces? Like between a lug...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

My capacity test is running a generic load on battery until somewhere down near 11.5V and counting AH consumed with monitor.
My understanding is between even 12V under load & 10.5V there is roughly...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Thanks John, appreciate the help. My turn off with bare cells is building the housing and all the gear needed. being a minimalist and all.

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Thanks John noted about SoC gauges.

These are the cell voltages according to bms monitor on my 12v dropin when charging to 14.5V set on battery charger.
3.71 3.70 3.64 3.50
I held 14.5V on...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

I'm having trouble with my BMV 712. It's soc gauge doesn't stay inline with my dropin's builtin bluetooth gauge & looks to be inaccurate. By the time I discharge down to 20% soc (according to...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

From all my testing with my dropins:

No absorb duration required for hard constant power sources with at least 13.8-14V at terminals, just straight to float after setpoint is reached. This is what...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

That's what I would do, when I get to shore just spend about 10secs at the sterling panel to quickly set both absorb/float to 13.2V and walk away. Dropins are getting cheaper & cheaper & the hope for...

Re: LiFePO4 Batteries: Discussion Thread for Those Using Them as House Banks

Why exactly is Floating at correct voltages bad? For example if your on shore power and floating at around 50% soc all the time. Have not found anything anywhere as to why it's bad. Just the same old...

Re: How much capacity do flooded golf cart batteries start out with?

Very wise words. It's so obvious to me that Monitors are alot of learning to get right & offer no real advantage for the experienced and well setup. All they do is waste the user's time with...

Re: How much capacity do flooded golf cart batteries start out with?

All good replies, thanks!

In my area trojan t105 are pretty pricey so I would at least stick to good practices & try get the best out of them. Only small loads and never go over .13C charge rate....

How much capacity do flooded golf cart batteries start out with?

If they need to be cycled up to get to full rated capacity over many cycles 100+
Then how much capacity do they start out with in early life? For those who only use them non fulltime is there some...
