Re: Replacement Refrigeration Compressor (Engine Driven)

I think we have a old Blissfield compressor - maybe HG100 - can you change the oil on this thing without loosing the refrigerant?

Thanks Bowdrie. Both photos were taken with pump running, so it looks like they are OK.

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

Hi Bycrick and others
We are back in home port now and I looked at the freezer again the other day. I actually have a Ruuvi tag in the freezer (on the wall opposite plate) so I can see (and its...

Re: Wakespeed WS500

It sounds like wiring it with a shunt to positive is the way to go. We are a Victron ship (if that matters). What shunt do you recommend? Out alt is a Balmar 90A and we have 4 x 6v Fullriver AGM in...

Re: Wakespeed WS500

I got mine this week from the Yacht Rigger in Florida. Product looks solidly made with a alloy case. Haven't got it powered up yet. Impressions are very good though.

Has Ethernet and N2K plus...

Post Blue Sea 360

I am looking to replace this mish mash of switches with a new Blue Sea 360 panel.

As shown in the photo I have already converted to remote battery switches.

I have designed the panel in there...

Re: The external regulator we've all been waiting for!

Sometimes it can be worth it if (for example):
1. They release regular updates with new features (like Victron are excellent at this); and
2. They have stellar support;

Sometimes they make it...

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

Fridge on for about 5-10 minutes every 2-3 hours.
Freezer more like 45 min every 8 hours.

I think in summary the question becomes if the plate is freezing (and I thin it is) why is the cooling...

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

Thanks Bycrick - that all makes sense.

Our issue is really why the box temp is so high (-4C).

It could be the insulation is calling apart, the seals, compressor efficiency or all of the above....

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

After a few weeks cruising we have discovered (thanks to Ruuvi tags ( wireless temp sensors)) that the Carel display reads -20 - but the true box temp is only -5.

There are two thermocouples - one...

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

Yes! This one has the 1/2HP 650 RPM direct coupled motor. Looking to put oil in. Presume SAE10 as I can't find in manual.

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

Bugger, I never recall it being that high.
Any idea on type of oil it takes? We have pump oil for our watermaker which may be suitable?

Re: Glacier Bay Fridge/Freezer Help

Just reviving this thread briefly. Our Glacier bay has started to draw 40A when running. I always recall it being more like 14A (which was bad enough).

Any ideas if this is a sign of impending...

Re: New windlass

One more bit of info - there is a metal thimble in the rope where it changes to chain - is there such a thing as a gypsy that can handle this?

Re: New windlass

Currently a Lofrans Royal there (but very old and chain jumps of you let it spool out without motor).

Another requirement would be manual handle in case of electrical failure.

Two speed/gears - fast for letting out, low gear getting it...

Re: Plugin Polar

I have crossed the pacific and made polars for my boat. The issue is that when the boat surfs down waves you get these unrealistic "peak" speeds - which are never maintainable.

Is there a fix for...
