Re: Lagoon 450 bow sprit
The only difference I see is the attachement to the crossbeam is a rail on the L440 whereas it is fixed on the L450, which is fine. Other than that it looks ot be made of the same 80mm x 2mm... |

Re: Idea: Alternators send AC to Wind type Controller at house bank
Quite the opposite, cf. skin effect. FWIW, I am using 70sqmm cables for about 14m round trip, 200A@12V alternators. That leads to about 0.5V loss. I can leave with it. I removed the bluesea switch in... |

Re: Lagoon 450... Am I crazy singlehanding?
I just do it from the flybridge (best possible point of view over the anchorage). In most conditions I don't bother pointing to the wind. I just throw the anchor where I decided was the right place,... |

Re: can you make a 12v alternator into a 24v alternator
If it has an external field input (as opposed to self excited) you may feed it 12V and connect its output to a 24V battery. It may not be able to provide enough voltage at low speed though. If you... |

Re: Asymmetrical Spinnaker Vs Gennaker
You know the main difference between outremer 45 and outremer 4X ? the latter has a big genoa instead of the self tacking jib... and a small jib on a removable stay. You may do the same. Or buy a... |

Re: Lagoon 450... Am I crazy singlehanding?
I sometimes allow one of my guest to help me. It takes about twice the time. As for the flybridge, I will access the port deck twice as fast as the other guy on his L450S would (we might be even to... |

Re: Asymmetrical Spinnaker Vs Gennaker
It is hard to believe you don't get more speed with a proper code-0 in light winds. Maybe that was very close reaching (what AWA is that ?) and winds not so light ? My genoa is 43sqm, code-0 I think... |

Re: Asymmetrical Spinnaker Vs Gennaker
Nice boat ;-) I don't understand why you have an asym and no prodder. If no prodder, then a sym spi is the obvious choice, isn't it ?. It also seems to me you are comparing two very different sails. ... |

Re: Howto attach a spinlock xts to an aluminium bowsprit
My initial thought but the rigger here told me the biggest rivets are about 6mm and I really need a 8mm countersunk screws for those xts spinlock. He told me he would find a solution if I bring him... |

Re: Howto attach a spinlock xts to an aluminium bowsprit
Good idea and rather simple ! but I am afraid I will not be able to tighten the screws enough without bending the tube ... unless someone did it already ? |

Howto attach a spinlock xts to an aluminium bowsprit
Hi, I believe I have to use 8mm screws. The aluminium tube is 2mm thick, 80mm diameter, 1m long. I need something strong enough for a 90sqm code-0 2to1 halyard... |

Re: Who can give us Sailing lessons onboard catamaran
AFAIK there are 2 local companies with dedicated catamaran training, ACM and Apaca. I don't think they provide any certification, but why would you care ? |

Re: Is there such thing as goin tooooo big on my alternator upgrade?
Interesting ! So it seems there is no problem with the bearings of crankshaft and water pump or any other parts whatsoever, at least up to 8hp for the 4JH3 series. What is the name of this document ? |

Re: Is there such thing as goin tooooo big on my alternator upgrade?
350A. and obviously 350A@12V. I am not familiar with such alternators but I guess you can expect 70% efficiency. So it's more like 8hp that's it is extracting at full power. |

Re: Is there such thing as goin tooooo big on my alternator upgrade?
Technically it would be much easier to have one single big alternator and to control its output (from 0% to 100%) with a "dimmer" on the field. Even simpler a big alternator that you can field switch... |

Re: Catamaran tacking angles , really that bad???
If you do the math you mlght as well do it right. 7.5 x cos(65) ~= 3.17 knots VMG to the wind. Now, gsuescum did not say that 40AWA is the best he can do. he says he can easily get up 30AWA. And it's... |

Re: Is there such thing as goin tooooo big on my alternator upgrade?
Yes, it is called a rectifier. Not an inverter. it is super cheap (doesn't have to be MG), works pretty well, and can be external to the alternator. The other part is called a voltage regulator, it... |

Re: Robertson vs Phillips headed screws
