Re: Anchor Turner/ Straighter On Its Own

We'd take a swivel device out of an anchor rode once a week on average, in summer that will double. We replace them with simple incredibly well proven shackles and now due to the high tensile chains...

Re: Windlass options Maxwell VW vs RC series

The VWC is old school. The RC is new and does everything the VWC does plus more.

Because in reality they are pretty much the same winch but with differing topworks.

We get to fix those...

Re: Maxwell VWC3000 Specs

Yeap, your right there Jim, the marketing dept of most companies can make the easy harder.

Good to see your comment on the 1200/1500, we have long suspected there ws more then just motor up...

Re: Any experience using samller HT (G7) chain on heavy anchor?

Gezzzz... you blokes use massive sized anchors.

Yes Horizontals do give the grief the boat boats here are seeing, it's quite common.

How far is the distance between the winch and the next...

Re: Maxwell VWC3000 Specs

I've suss the files and they do go back a fair way but I can't finding nothing about a VWC3000, no references at all bar to a 3000 Capstan.

What Maxwell have done a few times is re-name the odd...

Re: LOFRANS X2 OR MAXWELL ...

Both are in the top 2 of their class.
Buy the cheapest.

I specify anchor systems for a job so know winches very well and get feedback from the users all day everyday. If I needed a winch that...

Re: Any experience using samller HT (G7) chain on heavy anchor?

Sounds like a classic chain/gypsy mismatch.

Surely the dealer would know that wouldn't they? From our experience, Nope, it is very possible the dealer has no idea at all.

What are the markings...

Re: Maxwell VWC3000 Specs

The VWC (Vertical With Capstan) range is now old school as everyone has moved to auto rope/chain capable. But I may have what you are looking for at the office, I'll have a suss tomorrow for you.

Re: Photos of Anchors Setting

I always 'chuck and swill' without 'setting'.

There is no reason most boaters have to set their system if the system is well set up, if it is the anchor will set itself and continue to do so as...

Re: How to Connect Two Rodes

If you have one side of the system continuous and want to tap a length off chain off that to another anchor to form a V as shown in the picture earlier about the best option you have is a high load...

Re: Anchor marketing

There are a couple of anchor manufacturers or anchor brand sellers that are known to be highly 'creative' in their marketing. So much so the term Bull something or other ;) pops up nearly every time...

Re: Can Anchors Break ...

I took that photo. It is a asian made Bruce knock off. I dropped that one and the shank just fell off as you can see. We then started dropping the others (approx 2ft onto concrete) and a couple more...

Re: New Windlass: Lewmar, Maxwell, Lofrans Or?

Listen to this person, they are indeed very wise.

Lack of maintenance we see a lot and much of that does cost the boater performance, longevity and lots more money than needs to be spend.

A...

Re: New Windlass: Lewmar, Maxwell, Lofrans Or?

Buy the product not the brand.

Lewmars bigger winches are good, the smaller ones are built to a price and the most common found on the marina seabeds.

Lofrans horizontals are great, verticals...

Ah fellas, have you every considered the gypsy is for a metric chain?

The US has it's own standards and the rest of the world uses different ones, mainly metric based. The Standards usually have...

Re: Can anyone identify this windlass brand?

I'd say Lewmar as well, it's got the Lewmar dimples.
It seems set up weirdly though.

Re: Maggi Chain now in the USA!

A magnificent call there fella, and you are right on the rest of it.

Here we use 5:1 on the AQUA7 chain, 4:1 on the rest. The idea with the 5:1 is most who buy A7 use massive anchors and tiny...

Re: Rope only rode

Tuff things those Good Windlasses. I saw one on a boat last week that's done 2 circumnavigations and the skipper reckons is over 20 years old without ever missing a beat. He's got chain on the end. ...

G'day Sweetie, you called? :D

Fittings for the AQUA7 are around but you need to find someone who knows that their game well. It's unlikely anyone bar a specialist will have the good stuff. We have...

Re: New Rocna

Interesting to see the new Rocna anchor is the one we tried to get to work in the 1st place but couldn't as no one was willing to breach patents, hence the Supreme and Rocna had to use roll bars to...

Re: Open Source Anchor Project

Your comment is echoed by other users as well Shawn. But then they do have a pedigree to beat all others so that's got to give them a good head start. That Alain was a very clever guy.

The Titan branded ones are exactly the same as all of the Green Pin knock-offs out of china. Here we can buy 4 or 5 yellow pin versions and they all have different names on them and some have no...
