Re: Ok To Skip Bottom Paint For 1 Season?

I am another one of those four year haul out guys. I usually put 3 coats of Trinidad on and have a diver clean the bottom about 4-5 times a year. The diver uses a glove made of shag carpet so there...

Re: Can 2 people live aboard and just be friends?

I cannot understand why anyone would even consider living on a small boat ( or even a big house ) with someone they don't like. It's really not all that hard to go out and find someone you like and...

Re: The Reason People Are Moving Away From Monohulls

I don't see much mentioned about slips available for Multi-hulls.
Maybe it is not an issue elsewhere, but here on the San Francisco Bay (and most of the California Coast) it is not very easy to find...

Re: People who think cruising will be lollipops and unicorns...

It has been my experience over the last 40 years that the people who are most likely to be unhappy with living aboard a boat are those who move aboard and continue to live a conventional lifestyle...

Re: Heartbreaking first launch

I do feel sorry for the guy. And I can't help but wonder whether the guy operating the crane or the people at the marina had a sense of what was likely to happen?

Re: Please talk me out of it..

sailing on boats is more fun than working on boats. spend the money to get a boat that is ready to go rather than spending what will add up to the same dollars and working on a boat for a year or two.

Re: Please talk me out of it..

The list you are showing could cost $50-$75K or more to do right.
Add that to the "unbelievable price" the boat is being offered for and is it still such a good deal?

Re: Wet Exhaust - Is This Mixing Elbow Right?

This is the new style mixing elbow for Yanmar.
Looks kind of like the one you are asking about.
I have this elbow on my 3gm30f with 1100 hours and no problems.

Re: Yanmar Impeller Change Frequency Question

I change my impeller about every 200 hours. They usually come out looking pretty good although one time I found a couple of broken ( but still attached ) vanes.
My original pump started leaking at...

Re: Taiwan Made Boats

Actually the pier that you refer to is in Rio Del Mar (just a few miles from Santa Cruz) and is now a twisted rotting hulk that is broken into several pieces and closed to the public.
The Santa Cruz...

Re: l dont like my miserable sugar scoop stern!

Not being able to sleep in the aft cabin in the rare event that a current turns your stern to the wind is a without question bourgeois tragedy of enormous proportion!

Re: Purchased yacht, but can't document. Broker unresponsive. Any advice?

I would also contact the state board for broker licensing.
The broker has a clear responsibility to facilitate the transfer of title.
A failure to do this could put his license to do business in...

Re: Yanmar 3GMF 20 coolant flush has rusty metal flakes

Engines with aluminum blocks require special antifreeze/coolant.
Get coolant that is specified for Asian cars.
Zerex 675130 Asian Vehicle Antifreeze / Coolant is a good choice.

Re: SF Bay Area: Newbie looking for experienced sailor

Go to West Marine or go on-line and join the Boat US tow-boat service. Doesn't cost all that much and will give you some insurance in case there is a problem. Make sure the VHF radio works.

Re: 2016 Catalina 385 with self tending headsail Now at dealer costs

I really hope that this is not a trend and half of the posts become advertising!
IMHO that kind of trend would devalue the website.
Is this what everyone wants from Cruisers Forum?

Re: What's your take on this Vega?

Yeah, it's probably best just to do as you are told and/or just stay home!
Geez! Talk about a buzz kill. I wasn't suggesting anyone actually sail a Vega to Antarctica... just sayin' it's a good book...

Re: What's your take on this Vega?
