Good morning,
I'm having some concerns about the rudder packing gland on my Pearson 424. I recently noticed a tiny amount of water coming from the top of the gland (maybe a drop every 10 or 20...

Re: Bottom Paint: growth on NEW touch-up spots

Those photos look very similar. I think it may be electrically related. So then the question is, how urgent is the fix? With more consistent cleaning, will we be okay/safe until we haulout in May?

Re: Bottom Paint: growth on NEW touch-up spots

That is totally possible. I think it was at least four or five days. How long should the paint dry?

Bottom Paint: growth on NEW touch-up spots

While hauled out for hurricane season, I recently touched up some spots on the bottom of my boat, where the anti-fouling paint seemed depleted or failing. This was mostly on thru-hull areas and the...

Alternator Not Charging with enough amps

I appear to be having some issues with my battery charging, but I'm not entirely sure.

After several hours of motoring, my battery bank is still only at 85%. In the past, it seems like they would...

WC Skipper - "DRY" pump (pedal up) not working

I recently rebuilt my WC Skipper (every replaceable part) and it is pushing water through very well, with pedal depressed and pumping. But it is acting strangely when trying to pump OUT the water...

Re: talk me out of a free boat

First... there are no free boats (as others will tell you).

Second, for $15k to $25k you'll find many comparable boats in MUCH better and fully sailable condition. The Newport 30 is a great...

Replacing Autopilot head unit (different manufacturer)

I've got an ancient ComNav 1500 Autopilot with an Octopus pump and a large linear drive. This aging unit is becoming inconsistent and unreliable. But I believe the pump and linear drive are still...

Re: 40ft sloop refit questions

I'll cut to the chase (everything else is just detail). To address ONLY the things you've listed, it will cost more than TWICE what the boat will EVER be worth. What's more, there are dozens of...

Re: Westerbeke Raw Water Pump - WB-038445

There are currently many available Sherwood R10870G pumps. I found them easily at a variety prices ($699 to $991). But still cheaper than buying the SAME pump from Westerbeke for $1265. But you may...

Re: Westerbeke Raw Water Pump - WB-038445

UPDATE: Thanks to all who chimed in. I appreciate your help.

I ordered one "westerbeke" pump (WB-038445, $1265) and one "sherwood" pump (R10870G, $699), supposedly the equivalent. I wanted to see...

Re: Westerbeke Raw Water Pump - WB-038445

Thanks for all the input. There is NO chance to rebuild my existing pump. The damage is too severe. It needs replacing. I'm just trying to avoid the "W" expense, if the Sherwood is in fact the same.

Westerbeke Raw Water Pump - WB-038445

Hi all,
I have a W64A-Four and it uses the WB-038445 raw water pump (same pump used on W71C, lots of Westerbeke generators, etc.). Westerbeke sells this pump for nearly $1300.

Sherwood has their...

Re: Westerbeke 71C Raw Water Pump

Does anyone here have experience with both the Westerbeke 038445 and the Sherwood R10870G?? I'm very curious if they are "truly" the same (ie. does westerbeke just rebrand the Sherwood pump and...

Re: Bareboat chartering vs. Buying a cheap boat

I don’t think you’ll find a charter company eager to let a novice single-hand a boat for a month… and they shouldn’t (and you shouldn’t want to). It’s a very strange approach.

Buying a boat is an...
