All the world is divided between interveners and spectators. Interveners take action when they see a red flare in the distance or a person drop in a public place. Spectators do nothing, or fold their arms and wait for the paramedics to arrive. When I teach CPR, I know that it is very unlikely that any of my students will actually use the skill, and if they do, it will be unsuccessful. But, I am making them into interveners, and that's worth my time.

You are an intervener. You should take pride in that. Ultimately, the world will be a better place as a result, whatever the outcome in the case of the red flare.
