Mark, I appreciate the detail, 4-6 weeks is about the max of my availability. The trip from Cardiff might be too long for me. If you find yourself a Captain, or someone with experience in the crossing from the Canaries to Florida of the Caribbean and also find yourself in need of experienced volunteer crew to spread out the watch times, please reach out again.
(cont...) Part of the problem with getting to Halifax is that the currents and winds work against a direct east to west route at that latitude. They begin to work in favour down around the Azores and south, which is why Iím very open to make for Florida or the Caribbean instead. UK to Canaries to Caribbean should take 4 to 6 weeks, from what I understand.
If youíre still interested, given the above, let me know, and Iíll provide more detail!
Thanks for the reply. In terms of destination, anywhere in North America will work for me, including the Caribbean. If youíre looking for someone with experience to learn about longer passages from, Iím unfortunately not the right guy. I bought the boat and am currently upgrading it (new standing rigging, lights, some engine work, etc.), but do not have experience on larger boats or offshore experience. Iíll probably have to hire a delivery captain for at least part of the voyage, but thought Iíd first see if thereís anyone on CF with some offshore experience interested in the trip. Weíd be leaving from near Cardiff, with the route from there (Azores and over, Canaries and over, etc.) open. (continued in next post...)
Good Morning, Thanks for your message. I had envisioned a trip from the Canaries to the Caribbean, but I'm not set on that idea. I'm just looking for experience on longer passages. How many days is a UK to Halifax trip? (I understand that delivery timelines aren't like German train schedules).
