(cont...) Part of the problem with getting to Halifax is that the currents and winds work against a direct east to west route at that latitude. They begin to work in favour down around the Azores and south, which is why I’m very open to make for Florida or the Caribbean instead. UK to Canaries to Caribbean should take 4 to 6 weeks, from what I understand.
If you’re still interested, given the above, let me know, and I’ll provide more detail!
Thanks for the reply. In terms of destination, anywhere in North America will work for me, including the Caribbean. If you’re looking for someone with experience to learn about longer passages from, I’m unfortunately not the right guy. I bought the boat and am currently upgrading it (new standing rigging, lights, some engine work, etc.), but do not have experience on larger boats or offshore experience. I’ll probably have to hire a delivery captain for at least part of the voyage, but thought I’d first see if there’s anyone on CF with some offshore experience interested in the trip. We’d be leaving from near Cardiff, with the route from there (Azores and over, Canaries and over, etc.) open. (continued in next post...)
Hi SailingInTex,
Which direction are you headed? I plan to pick up a 32' Vancouver in the UK in May to bring to North America (location open, although ideally Halifax, Canada).
Cheers,
M
