You do realize that the only two requirements for a boat is that 1) it floats and 2) you fit in it. Don't know your age but with this activity, I suggest you start sooner rather than later - while the body is still agreeable. So sell the house, get a boat and enjoy life. For my part, if finances are tight, I can always become a Walmart greeter after sailing. This forum is chock-full of tips, tricks and advice on how to make it happen - just don't eat or drink while reading the stuff here. Can make you spit out whatever you have in your mouth. lol

Love your plans! I recently started thinking about the same retirement plan, although it's a bit further off for me. As a single (divorced) guy, I'd like to find a romantic partner to make the journey with, so of course I read your post! My youngest graduates college this year and I was looking at whether I could sell my house and have enough to buy a boat and sail around until I can draw Social Security (still at least a decade off). It's close, but only if I get a smaller boat. To get a better boat, I figure I have to work a few more years. I'd love to be able to sell my house and buy a boat to live on while I continue to work, but I'm about as far from the ocean as one can get: in the middle of the US in St. Louis, Missouri.
