I enjoy solo sailing and have been doing so for years. As has been pointed out, most boats can be configured for single handing. The only things I recommend are: A full keel (it's more comfortable and easier to handle in bad conditions, and you don't need to manually steer quite so soon as with a fin),
A centre cockpit is next. You will stay drier, and be away from the pitching ends in a bad blow, so you won't get tired so quickly.
And it is essential to over-do the safety. You need mast steps, jack lines rigged whenever you venture offshore, clip on points in the cockpit, the galley and fore deck. Extra strong stanchions, mast pullpits; and have such things as emergency steering ready for immediate use.

The only drawback to single handing is that you will see the most amazing things along your route. It can be disappointing when you wish to share and the only other entity is a booby on the spreaders whose main contribution is to crap all over the deck just before taking to wing.
