Transporting a Dog By Plane to USVI

We will be sailing from the USVI/BVI to Granada in early Dec completing the voyage in April. We are trying to get our 65 LB Golden Retriever Pirate from Miami to the USVI or the BVI. Post Covid they will not allow them as baggage in the hold on your commercial flight. Thus the only way seems to be an Air freight with United. The freight charge is $900 US from Miami to the USVI. The cost is not as big a concern as the logistics. You need one person on one end to ship the pup and another on the other end to receive her as you cannot be on a freight flight. Not only that, they want her crated up and ready to go 5 hours before the flight. Then we cannot figure out how to get her back from Granada to Miami as the freight option seems to only be available from USVI. Anyone have any thoughts?

How much for a private charter? That would make the logistics really easy and less stressful for all concerned.

I think it is in the dog's best interest to have someone else take care of it until you return. Spend time with that person, get the dog acquainted, maybe an overnight or two if you are afraid your dog won't adjust to the new surroundings. But my god, if you are willing to put your dog through the abuse and hell you are describing, you probably don't care.

If your dog hasn't lived on a boat before, then forcing it to spend 5 months on one is also abuse. Especially a larger bread that usually needs room to run.
