Sailing with Birds

Does any one know how difficult it is to travel via sailboat to the USA from Canada with a bird?

Re: Sailing with Birds

We have crossed from Canada to the US on several occasions with a fish and a dog. At no point did customs ever ask about pets aboard.

How about travelling into Mexico or returning to Canada?

Re: Sailing with Birds

Do you want the real world/practical answer? Or the actual rules that are what you are up against if you are one of the select few for whom the letter of the law is enforced? Technically you will require both an import permit and a vet. inspection, with additional requirements that may come into play depending on type of bird. Birds are not as easy as dogs and cats, and avian flu situations can change the rules at the drop of a hat.

From Mexico to the US there is a 30-day mandatory quarantine, APHIS recommends birds being returned to Canada from Mexico should bypass the US.

Them's the rules, YMMV.
