Reasons to Ban Children from Cruising!

In light of the recent controversy concerning Rebel Heart and its crew, I thought it is time to call for an international ban on children cruising. Never mind my avatar, children cruising are dangerous! For one, they attack the captain and pull on his shirt! (see avatar)
They fight over helmsmanship of the wheel! Outrageous! Then they sit down in the galley and demand food! And all the while they keep the admiral from paying attention to the captain!
I demand justice!
I demand equal time with the admiral!
Let us lead this noble cause!

Teenagers are even more dangerous.

Exactly what I was thinking! All those bodies asleep in the cockpit! Outrageous! Where is Capt. Bligh when you need him!

At least they don't drink all the beer... I hope.

Their choice of boat shoes leaves something to be desired.

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

To funny. I sail with kids. For awhile I thought they are not getting this. Then Dad can I bring a friend to the boat? We had a ball teaching each other. My oldest suddenly remembers everything I have tried to teach him. He left his phone at home. Because he didn't want it out here on the water. Definitely kids should not do this.

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

I've just about done more deepwater miles on boats with babies than without.

A close family member sailed to Antarctica with a toddler.

He got seriously sick on the way, not responding to antibiotics, and they had to turn back to the Chatham Islands from deep in the subantarctic. He pulled through.
(He's since paddled a kayak around Sth Georgia, and sailed around the world, both solo, the latter including Cape Horn, without anyone who doesn't know him hearing about it.)
His older brother (who was also on board, aged five) had already been to Antarctica, having been conceived there in winter on the same yacht, and born in Sth Georgia, which was essentially uninhabited at the time, IIRC.

Certainly no doctors. The "Ship's Captain's Medical Handbook" has a section on delivering babies.

Their radio comms did not extend to a transmitter.

I blame the parents.

But seriously: Imagine the field day the twitterati would have with that.

Re: Reasons to ban children from cruising!

When I brought my 11 YO nephew aboard for the first time on a 1 week cruise he insisted on steering the boat and did a better job then my wife who's been learning since 2003.

He showed me tricks about using the fish finder and found all kinds of new features on the Garmin 441s that I didn't know I had. And even learned to handle the mooring lines better then a 72 YO crew member I had ONCE.

So yeah! Kids can be dangerous in that they can do and learn things a lot faster then you can. Plus they are like monkey's running around the boat like it were sitting still.

Why stop at cruising? This epidemic touches all sailors! Just look at how these two commandeer my hammocks!

My boy on our previous boat. As long as he steers and I can take crack book profile pics, he's happy.
