Bit the Bullet

Well, after looking at so many project boats and all I finally bit the bullet. Today we made a deal to purchase a (pretty much) ready to go Cal 29. Granted, a Cal 29 is much smaller than we will want when we start cruising, but this way we can do some daysailing and some short hops to other harborsd in the area such as Newport and similar places. I am spending way more than I wanted to but at least this way we will be on the water far sooner than if I had continued to look for a suitable project boat.
The kids and I are excited and hope to have it on the water within 2 or 3 months. I say it is pretty much ready to go - I could put her in the water in 2 weeks when I will bring it home, but I want to do some maintenance such as new bottom paint and such as that. It is derigged right now so now is the time to do some maintenance on the mast and rigging also.
Any suggestions here will be appreciated.

I'll be heading to Sea of Cortez via Baja Ha-Ha in Late Jul Early Aug 2009. When I get to Baja, I will receive the glory of a 4 yo and wife. Spend teh winter there before they get any long term offshore. Bring them in slowly anc carefully. Alaska or the South PAc in 2010.

Great boat name, Lookout! Originally we were going to head south this year, but the Admiral balked at selling the house (at the top of the market) so we are stuck for the time being.
So your plan is to have the wife and child meet you down south?

As it stands now. I will head out, get my feet wet again after a small 33 year of no heavy blue water. I used to deliver with my stepdad along the ditch and down to the Carrib. I will have a couple of crew from www findacrew com to tag along as I will ensure they have blue water experience. Once I get to teh Sea of Cortez, I'll head to Punta Penasco and my wife and grandaughter will meet me there as most of my family reside in Phoenix. $250 a ticket round trip to Phoenix from SEATAC, $525 to Cabo. $50 in fuel a few hours in a car or SUV, and teh relitives get to go for a sail... What a deal.

We live in the Portland area. Although we do not have a boat yet, we are waiting for the house to sell.

We will be cruising with our 5 & 2yr old kids. My wife and I are in our mid twenties and plan on cruising for the foreseeable future.

All the cool live aboard/ cruiser families are in the PNW.

*sigh*

It's awfully quiet here on the east coast.

Since my last post in this thread, we have traded our Cal 29 in on an Ingrid 38 which I am pretty much rebuilding at this paint.
Shipgrabber - we are just down in Winchester bay. If you find yourself down this way, look us up and we can all get together!

Well, NOt making it out this year. Family issues made it impossible to get the boat ready for the tgrip. I will get it ready to head north to Alaska in late May 2010 and then to Baja in Fall of 2010. HELL OR HIGH WATER I AM GOING!
