Provisioning / Offshore Cooking Class

I was wondering if anyone knows of a school or club that offers instruction specific to cruisers in regards to provisioning and cooking at sea. Was thinking this would be something fun to do with the Admiral when not able to sail.

I havent heard of a class for provisioning. Read the book Care and Feeding of the sailing crew. Lin and Larry Pardy.

Very useful for provisioning, helpful equipment, recipes, everything!!!
Also, many many sailing blogs have sections on provisioning and recipes; look for one where the authors have cruised the same areas you will visit. Have gotten some great ideas and recipes from these blogs.
I learned about canning chicken....... absolutely a life saver, even with refrig and freezer aboard.

I am hoping to develop a series of classes that would cover various cooking & preservation techniques that could be useful for the cruiser/live aboard.

I have no idea when I will complete them but what topics would be of interest to you?

The power Squadron not only has a number of navigation, piloting courses, they also have a course on cruise planning, (provisioning ?).

During a 30 day (whatever) passage one pot cooking gets pretty damn boring. Same recipies since Lin and Lary Pardy started. Every sea cooking book has them too. So if you have unique ideas then fine.

But how about doing the reverse and working out some simple gourmet dishes for heavy weather?

One of mine is grab a chicken, whole or bits etc, stuff, crumb, herbs, and shove in oven bag, shove veges in bag too. Seal. 4 small holes in the top. When boat lurches run towards oven and shove the lot in a baking tray and into oven.
Start on high for 10 minutes then drop to 1/3 for as long as it takes.

When done, hold bag but top and slice it open (I use sissors) splattering plates with contents including sauce


Yum!

And no washing up of pots and pans....

Thats cuz they were written before folks started demanding freezers and a/c and microwave abilities...

The stuff I see on various sites these days seem to assume one carries things like fresh herbs and mascarpone etc for an impromptu whip up... lmao

When I was hiking, I would yearn for the gourmet meals of home. I worked out a system of when cooking at home putting an equivalent amount of spices I usually add into a zip lock bag, and when cooking in the woods just crack open a baggie and add entire contents into cookpot, (I abandoned this method after some loong talks with law enforcement about contents of said baggie "just some herbs officer,...Honest"). So then, I would cook up a pot of sauce, and lay it out on a baking tray at low heat in the oven until dried, then ziplock it. To reconstitute just add to a pot of boiling water and stir.

everything i make is one pot cooking and i eat many different kinds of foods..LOL... how can one pot cooking be boring unless you are cook book dependent???? learn to cook without a cook book and life opens up enormously!!!!! besides, chicken dishes taste nasty when made with fish..LOL

Himself is a happy camper eating crepes with berries and creme fraiche while sunning in the cockpit...
