Passover

Is anyone making haroseth today without a food processor or a food grinder? Can it be done?

I once helped a friend prepare the dish under the guidance that only manual means were allowed.

Of course.

A grater like this would do the job:

If you use nuts you can pound them in a plastic bag with a rolling pin or equivalent, or use a mortar and pestle.

Re: Passover

Just did it. It is supposed to be fine chopped. Remember, no food processors back then. Maybe you need a Goy to help.

Never use them , chop by hand, much faster, certainly never needed one on a boat.

Re: Passover

It used to be my uncles job to chop, with a curved chopper similar to one of those Inuit blades, in a matching curved bowl.

Certainly charoseth predates modern kitchen gizmos, so it can be made without them.

About the only one-trick pony I'll allow in the galley is the coffee grinder. I may be a dinosaur but I refuse to dice coffee beans by knife. Or maul.<G>

we bought a Zasenhaus hand grinder. No heat as in the hammer mills and no electricity. Makes great coffee.

A bit late now - but if using electrickery etc is verbotten at Passover(?) why not make the day before? or the day after .

Or substitute Haroseth with an Easter Egg .....if chocolate is also verbotten you probably need to consider changing religions .
