My Home-Brew Beer Is Ready

Don't tell Nicolle....


.... but my Home Brew Beer has been sliding down a treat!

Brewed deep in the Lazarette and then quietly bottled and hidden in the aft cabin...

After maturing for a few weeks it really is excellent!

If you haven't, you should

But please don't tell Nickers........

Since arriving back in Australia the weather hasn't been real good. That pic was about 1 month ago in Bundaberg before we got the the Great Barrier Reef.
Our last real time cruising, snorkeling and lappin up the sun was in Tonga.

I think cruising the east coast of australia would be like the east coast USA. Its not really a water splashing area.

Now its changed and we are in paradise and heading further north next week to Dunk Island:

What did you use to brew it, Mark? In my mis-spent youth I brewed beer from canned malt syrup, sugar, and bread yeast. Crude and rudimentary, but potent. I was working summers off from college in an analytical chemistry lab, and ran a sample through a gas chromatograph. It came out at 7.2% alcohol! Eureka! Tasted like p!$$, but we drank it anyway.

We have this brewry that puts it in a kit. To say you can't go wrong is a bit of an understatement. Its beer making for cretins and the result is fantastic.




Homebrew, Coopers homebrew beers and ales. Mix, brew, bottle.


Its now available in the USA and the site shows how to order it.

Do I sound like a commercial from this stuff?

So here we buy it at the supermarket, do the actual brew at a marina because its easier with a hose and water... but then it can be bottled anywhere. So it just takes a few hours at a marina and then sail away while its quietly brewing.

No smell, no exploding bottles.

They say to drink it after 3 weeks after botteling but there was a plastic taste (I thought it would be permanet from the bottles) but it goes away after about 4 weeks and then is really quite OK.

Put it this way: Its great!

4 weeks, you mean it lasted 4 weeks!

I remember brewing beer and laughing as I sucked on the siphon tube while laughing at the instructions that said it had a lifetime of 3 months...lol I don't think any of it made it past 3 weeks in the bottle. None of the bottles exploded either.

Hud,

I'm impressed. I used to make home brew with canned malt and it was terrible and potent and we drank every drop. Ah, to be young with a cast iron stomach and a solid wood head.

we have been makeing boatbrew on TFW. I can second the coopers brand kits, but you need another can of malt to bring up the alcohol level without loosing flavor. we made 2 batches of coopers and since have been using unhopped malt extract, grains, hops, and various strains of brewers yeast. so far the beer has been excellent, and it couldn't be easier. just heat 2gal water to 150f-165f, add grains for 10-30 min with heat off, remove grains, add malt extract and boiling hops, boil for 1hr, during the last 2-15 minutes of the boil add finishing hops and drop in wort chiller, at end of boil remove from heat and run cool water through chiller until wort is 90f, pour 2 gal of cold water to firmenter, dump wort into firmenter, add cold water until 5gal mark, take gravity, pitch yeast. then the waiting starts, wait until the bubbles in the airlockslow to one in five minutes, then transfer to the secondary fermenter ( if you have space for one) then wait until the beer clears up a bit, transfer to bottling vessel, add 3/4 cup of corn sugar, bottle, wait again for at least 7-10 days, chill to desired temp, enjoy!

just about anyone can do it, the most important think is to keep everything clean and sanitized. just remember that clenliness is next to beerliness.

Looking at the photo, it appears that you're using screw tops. Depending on how much residual sugar you left in the wort for CO2 production when you bottled it, you could use them as defense against pirates. Shake one of them up, and heave it into their boat. It'd explode like a hand grenade.

Yes but they are PET bottles. So they would just bounce off.... Then everyone would try to catch them

By the way, PET bottles are important so they don't explode if too much sugar is added.
