They are on the rocks that are exposed at low tide. Pretty sure the water is not contaminated, being located in the sourthern end of the Strait of Georgia with a lot of tidal exchange. We would steam in wine with tomatoes and garlic!

Oh. Our boat is in Blaine too. Yes, we go there from time to time.
Yes, I think this area is fine. Depending on the website you look the information is not always consistent, but I think there it is ok.

I've glunoshed off the beach in BC for many years and find the local pacific mussels to be major inferior to the Mediterranean or NZ critters .Edible but!!. The commercially grown species in the Gulf Islands and Desolation Sound are bound to have escaped to spawn in the wild. Meanwhile ,no shortage of clams , oysters ,scallops and prawns and new recipes always welcome.

Is there a way to cook the zebra mussels here on the Great Lakes?
If only.....we have an endless supply....did anyone get the name of that freighter that contaminated our lakes 30 plus years ago with those critters....

My wife drinks wine. I drink beer with mussels

Unfortunately here in WA Belgian beer are not always easy to find where we are (Probably easier in Seattle)

The only one we find is Leffe.

One of my favorite variations in cooking muscles is instead of using water to steam them or wine I use 1/4 cup of Port. The alcohol does it’s usual thing but the left over sweetness of the Port cooks into things in really tasty way.

Maijipo,
nothing wrong drinking wine or beer with, or after, you meal.
Preparing mussels with beer or wine, is like drinking Champagne out of a plastic glass.
Just a matter of taste and style.
Tray mussels on the bbq.

Well, i watched the nice YouTube video as to how she cooks and then enjoys her mussels but where are the frites? No sign of any.

By the way there is a charming Belgian restaurant chain in London called Belgo and of course apart from the speciality Belgian beers their most popular dish is moules et frites.

We didn't do frites that day since we had it a few days before. So we eat them with bread .

But you are right, mussels are good with frites It is indeed the way to eat then ^^.

Yes, no need for water. We always use wine or beer. Port is an interesting idea indeed, the sweet must give an interesting taste. We will try ! Thx for the idea. (maybe we send that to Leon de Bruxelles I don t think they have mussels with Port

Maybe But it is one of the most common ways to cook in many European countries like Spain, France, Belgium, Italy etc...I suppose it comes from a very long tradition. But we use cheap wine for cooking ^^

We never did the mussels on the bbq but certainly something I want to try! Must be great in summer when cooking outside is a bit more comfortable than now. Any specific recipe for that?

PS: drinking champagne in a plastic glass is certainly a high crime ^^^
